The Rockets picked up their first win of the season, a 42-0 shutout of Mapletown. Jonathan was the game's leading rusher with 144 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 10-yard touchdown run.  At one point in the second half Jonathan ran for back-to-back 20 yard gains.

Kevin was the catalyst in getting the Mikes' football season started on the right track with a 34-25 win over Beth-Center.  The quarterback was the leading rusher of the game with 176 yards on 25 carries and scored all 4 of Carmichaels' offensive touchdowns on designed quarterback runs.

6/10/19 Mackenzie Carpenter
West Greene Softball
In a scoreless game in the 4th, Mackenzie, a 4-year starter in right field, gunned down a runner at the plate to keep Clarion off the board.  She would later start a relay to 3rd to cut down a potential lead-off triple in the 5th. With great defense in both PIAA games Mackenzie also has one of only 2 Pioneer extra base hits.

The only Pioneer with multiple RBI in the game, Jade went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI sigles in a dominating 11-0 win  over Union where West Greene claimed their 4th WPIAL crown in a row! Jade was dominant inside the circle, pitching the shut out while allowing only two Union hits.

Waynesburg Track & Field
After stumbling in last year's PIAA Championships and then needing a PIAA ruling to allow him to run the 110m hurdles in the WPIALs this year, Daniel went on to defend his WPIAL title from a year ago and then with a run 14.53, reached the top of the podium at Shippensburg as the State Champion!

In a fast-paced game that featured a pitcher's dual and a total of only 4 hits, Gavin outdueled Zander Malik and the Jeannette Jayhawks as the Mikes advanced to the WPIAL Quarterfinals with a 1-0 win.  Pratt pitched the complete game shutout, allowing just 2 hits while striking out seven.

In a battle for playoff position in a game that seemed destined to be shortened due to rain, Luke took the Raiders on his shoulders to a 5-1 win over McGuffey, with the game called in the sixth.  Robinson tossed 11 strikeouts from the mound and at the plate, he blasted three extra base hits with a double and two homeruns!

Carmichaels Baseball
Carmichaels trailed Chartiers-Houston 1-0 through six and the Mikes had only registered 1 hit.  Then came the 7h inning... The Mikes tied the game with a couple of hits and Matt then drove in the go-ahead run with a single.  He then came on to get the save, retiring the Bucs in order in the bottom of the 7th.

Evan had the strikeout pitch working in a 4-inning outing against Beth-Center.  With only 12 possible putouts to record, Evan struckout 8 hitters.  He gave up 2 runs, only 1 earned, and  left the game with the score tied at 2 for a no decision. Beth-Center would go on to win the game in walk-off fashion, 4-3.

Jade was dominant in a 10-0 win over Jefferson-Morgan as she allowed just one hit and struck out 12, walking only one, in six innings. She struck out 9 of the last 11 batters she faced. At the plate, Jade went 2-for-3 with 2 singles plus a walk, her runner scored twice, and she drove in a run.

In a 5-4 extra inning section win over Jefferson-Morgan, Ben did it all! His day started with an inside-the-park homerun to first tie the game at 1. Then in the top of the 8th, it was his throw from left field that gunned down a runner at the plate to keep the game tied at 4.  Ben then drove in the winning run with a single for the walk off.

With 3 Raiders battling their way in consolations to within 1 win of a PIAA medal, there was only one who reached the podium, as Cole, a freshman went 3-3 in six bouts in Hershey.  He came from behind twice, both in the win to clinch a medal and in his seventh place bout, to finish 7th in the state at 120 pounds.

Leading 1-0 in a tight bout with Latrobe's Jack Pletcher, Trey was able to ride out the entire third period to become the only Raider to reach this year's WPIAL Finals! Trey would drop a tough bout in the finals to finish as the 145-pound Runner-up. He is one of four Raiders who will compete in the State Tournament!

The leading scorer for the Pioneers with 18 points, McKenna led West Greene to the WPIAL Semifinals for the third year in a row with a 56-46 win over Sewickley Academy in the WPIAL Quarterfinals.  The win also gave West Greene their third straight berth in the PIAA State Playoffs.

The only Section 1-AA Champion from Greene County, Kolin was one of six to qualify for the WPIAL AA Championships. Kolin again was the only one to reach the WPIAL Quarterfinals, and ultimately finished 6th at 182 pounds. He is the only Greene County wrestler to qualify for the PIAA Southwest Regional.

With 20 of his game-leading 21 points coming after halftime, Al led the Mikes from down 13 at the half to force overtime and ultimately to a dramatic 64-57 win over Chartiers-Houston that ended the season on a high note and brought a fantastic finish to the legendary career of head coach Don Williams.

Two of only 3 Raiders to go undefeated in 4 WPIAL Team Tournament matches last week, Luca & Colby went back-to-back with identical technical falls of 23-8 to pull the Raiders from down 11 points to within a point of Canon-Mac in the 3rd Place Consolation. The Raiders unfortunately would ultimately fall to 4th place.

On the same night that her Senior class recorded win #72 to become the winningest class in program history, Kaitlyn also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark, becoming the third player in her class (and starting 5) to hit that milestone. She is the 18th player in West Greene history to reach 1,000 points!

It was a special night for the Maples last Friday at Jefferson-Morgan as Mapletown snapped a 79-game losing streak to defeat the Rockets, 53-49. Ryan was the catalyst in opening up Mapletown's first big lead and was solid all night, putting up a double-double leading the team with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Colton had a great weekend at the Winners Choice Tournament in Fairmont, WV.  Up to that point, Colton's only individual medal of the season was a 6th place finish at TRICADA. At the Winners Choice, Colton went 5-0 to take the 126-pound title!  His was one of 4 titles for the Team Champion Raiders!

After suffering a pin in the Quarterfinals of the TRICADA Tournament, Kolin stormed through the consolation bracket, winning 4 straight bouts to claim 3rd place at 182 pounds. He went 5-1 in 6 total bouts, and collected 4 pins. His medal was the only medal won by the Pioneers.

Cole reached the Round of 16 at the POWERade before dropping to consolations, where he won 4 straight bouts to reach the Consolation Semifinals.  He would ultimately finish in 6th place at 120 pounds going 5-3 in eight matches.  Cole was the only Raider to bring home a POWERade medal.

With his team down 10 points in the second quarter, Lucas was the catalyst in a 14-0 run into and out of the half.  The Raiders went on to win a hard fought battle over Belle Vernon, 77-72.  Lucas' 39 points were more than double the point total for any other player in the game.

Playing back-to-back Friday night and Saturday afternoon, Matt put up a team-high 19 points in both games. First in a highly competitive and hard fought overtime loss to California and again in a run away win over West Greene. Barrish has scored at least 15 points in all of the Mikes' first five games.

There was one bright spot in West Greene's 52-14 loss to Rochester in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. It was Ben Jackson, on the Pioneers' last offensive snap, running for a 30-yard touchdown and eclipsing the 4,000-yard mark! Ben, playing with a leg injury, became just the sixth Greene County player to reach that milestone!

Gavin put the Raiders in front early when he scored in the first minute of their first round WPIAL playoff against Connellsville.  Gavin went on to record a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Raiders to a 6-2 win.  Unfortunately the season would end just three days later in a 4-0 loss to Deer Lakes.

The Pioneers needed a win over Jefferson-Morgan to clinch a playoff spot and Nathan led the way to a big win with a total of 155 yard from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns. It was a balanced attack as Nathan rushed for 85 yards and had 70 receiving yards. The Pioneers punced their ticket to the playoffs with a 50-7 win.

Taylor led the way with 13 kills as Carmichaels cruised to a sweep of West Greene.  She would add 6 more kills in a match with rival Jefferson-Morgan that also ended in a sweep for the Mikes.  The two wins kept Carmichaels' undefeated record intact and set up a showdown with Geibel with the Section Title on the line.

In a key section win over Beth-Center, Bailey accounted for 12 kills, and to seal the victory, it was Bailey who was at the service line delivering back-to-back aces to close out the match.  She followed that up with another 4 kills and 3 aces in a sweep of Charleroi as the Raiders improved to 7-2 in the Section.

For the second year in a row, Matt has qualified for the PIAA Western Regional after shooting a 74 at the WPIAL Championships, good enough for an 8th place tie. At the Regional on October 15th, Matt will be looking to qualify for the PIAA Championships, where he placed 11th last year.

With first place in the Tri-County South on the line, Ben scored all of West Greene's 3 touchdowns in a 24-6 win over previously unbeaten Monessen. Ben carried the ball 29 times for 122 yards and was also solid defensively. West Greene, at 4-0, is the only team left with an undefeated record in Tri-County South play.

With the third set tied 7-7, Aliceon stepped to the service line and Mapletown went on an 11-0 run to put the match away as Mapletown swept West Greene by scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-16 to claim their first Section win. Aliceon also registered 9 kills in the match.

In a hard fought game with Yough to open Section play, the defending WPIAL Champion Raiders were able to come away with a 2-1 win, when Bailey, connected on a free kick from 32 yards out for the game-winning goal with less than a minute to play in regulation.

Kicking off the Boys Soccer season at the Chartiers-Houston Tournament, Jack scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Steel Valley and assisted on a goal in a 3-2 over Chartiers-Houston as the Raiders were crowned Champions of the tournament.  Jack was named tournament MVP.
       
8/27/18 Zach Greene
Mapletown Football
In a Week Zero preview of a Tri-County South Conference matchup later in the season, Zach accounted for nearly all of the Mapletown offense, rushing for 173 yards on 32 carries including a 25-yard touchdown run to give the Maples a lead in the 4th quarter. Avella was able to answer the score and went on to win, 14-12.

McKenna picked a good time to have a monster game! In the State Championship Game, McKenna first gave the Pioneers the lead for good with a 2-run homerun in the second inning.  She followed that up with a double, a single, and a late 2-run triple to help put the game away. She hit for the cycle with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.

In two PIAA Playoff wins last week, Madison went 5-for-8 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a homerun that gave the Pioneers a 10-0 walk-off win over McConnellsburg in 6 innings. She also pitched the sixth inning of that game, recording the game's only 2 strikeouts. Madison also finished the week with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.

Down two runs in the bottom of the 7th, Jade ripped a 2-run double to the left-center gap to tie Monessen at 4. Her runner would then score the winning run as the Pioneers claimed their 3rd straight WPIAL title! Jade, also the winning pitcher, went 2-for-3 plus a walk and drove in 3 runs in 4 trips to the plate.

After going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the WPIAL Quarterfinals, Madison followed it up with a monster Semifinal game, going 3-for-3 including 2 homeruns and a double plus a walk. She drove in 4 and scored 4 in an 8-2 win over Union that puts the Pioneers in their third straight WPIAL Championship Game.

Will not only was crowned WPIAL AA Champion in Pole Vault, he also set the new WPIAL AA Championship Meet Record with a vault of 14' 10"! Waynesburg finised with the top 2 vaulters as Daniel Layton, who also won the 110 hurdles title, took 2nd with a vault of 13' 6".

Kylie was dominant both inside the circle and at the plate in a 13-2 win over Jefferson-Morgan.  Her first time through the Rockets' order, Kylie struck out seven batters in a row! She finished with nine K's on the day. At the plate, Kylie was 3-for-4 with 3 doubles plus a walk. She drove in one and scored 3 times.

In a huge section win over Jefferson-Morgan, Patrick led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored including a 3-run homerun that put the Pioneers up 5-3 after falling behind 3-2. West Greene went on to win 8-6 to keep their playoff hopes alive, pulling them to within a half-game of the Rockets.

After giving up a double on the very first pitch of the game, Bryce completely shut down Mapletown, not allowing another hit and striking out 11 in a 6-inning complete game 12-2 win. At the plate Bryce went 2-for-4 with a couple of singles and a walk and scored 3 runs including the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

The Maples scored 18 runs on 19 hits in an 18-11 win over Jefferson-Morgan. Elisa had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with 2 singles, a double, and a 2-run homerun.  Every one of her hits drove in at least 1 run and she finished with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored.

In Waynesburg's first Section Game, the Raiders had battled back from down 3-0 to take a 5-3 lead when Bailee sent a fly ball over the fence in left centerfield for a grand slam! The Raiders took a 9-3 lead in the fourth inning and never looked back, beating Brownsville, 11-6. Bailee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 4 RBI.

While the weather has caused an incredibly slow start to the spring sports season as a whole, Rachel is off to an very hot start.  Through 3 games (which included two in Pigeon Forge, TN) Rachel is 9-for-10 for a batting average of .900! The junior third baseman has 2 doubles, a triple, 3 homeruns, and 10 RBI.

Gavin made history on Saturday when he won his 4th PIAA State Wrestling Title! In the finals, Gavin deafeated Josh Jones of Saucon Valley, 2-0 to finish his high school career at 162-2. Gavin is the 13th wrestler in history to win 4 PA State titles and Jefferson-Morgan is the first school to produce multiple 4-time champs!

Wyatt, a freshman, picked up a pin and a 7-1 decision to join a group of 5 Raiders who reached the WPIAL Semifinals! Wyatt lost to Louis Newell there, but bounced back with 2 wins to claim 3rd place at 120 pounds.  He now heads to the State Tournament in Hershey with a current record of 39-10.

Luca, a freshman, had wrestled only 13 bouts this season. But his 11-2 record was good enough to earn the top seed in Section 4 at 132 pounds. On Saturday, Luca cruised to the Section Finals with two falls and then picked up a 7-2 decision to claim the Section title! He is one of 11 Raiders to advance to WPIALs.

After being pinned in an upset by Bentworth's Ashton Lopez in the Section 2 Semifinals, Connor came back strong for the WPIAL Championships. He picked up a quick fall and a 4-0 decision to reach the semifinals where he avenged his loss to Lopez with a 8-0 major decision. Connor finished as a WPIAL Runner-up.

In the same regular season finale, an 82-61 Carmichaels win over Jefferson-Morgan, Jacob's 19 points led the Mikes to the rivalry win to end their season. Meanwhile, Jalen became the fifth Greene County player this season to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He did so in the final quarter of his final high school game.

A winter season of milestones continued this past week as Madison joined her sister McKenna in West Greene's 1,000-point club in a win over Geibel. Meanwhile, Darton became Waynesburg's all-time leading scorer when he put up 32 against South Fayette to put his career total at 1,486. Also Carmichaels head Coach Don Williams picked up career win #500 last week!

Needing 23 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone in a game Friday against Frazier, D.L. put up 24 to become the 14th member of the 1,000-point club at Jefferson-Morgan.  His father (and head coach), Dennis, was the first name on that list in 1975. Unfortunately the Rockets lost to the Commodores, 63-56.

In a win that solidified West Greene as a top 3 team in the section,  Nathan led the way with 24 points.  His 16 points in the first half allowed the Pioneers to open up an 18-point lead at the half and they never looked back as West Greene defeated Mapletown, 67-24.

In a game Carmichaels needed to win to get back into the thick of the Section standings, the Mikes fell just short to California, 39-34. Kristina had a very strong second half effort.  She was the leading scorer in the game with 15 points and kept the Mikes within striking distance until the final minute.

Caleb breezed to the Finals at the TRICADA Tournament with back-to-back pins in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals and then picked up a 12-3 major decision win in the Finals to claim the 138-pound title. It was his third TRICADA title! Caleb was one of four Greene County TRICADA Champions.

Jackson, the senior and first-year Raider, followed up an impressive 4th place finish at the Beast of the East, with a 3rd place finish at the POWERade! Jackson went 6-1 in the tournament, cruising to the semifinals where he dropped a tough 4-3 decision. He rebounded with a 7-2 decision over Noah Levett of Kiski to take 3rd.

The leading scorer in the game with 31 points, McKenna led the Pioneers to a lopsided win over Jefferson-Morgan, to open section play, and remain undefeated through six games. The bigger story that night though was McKenna becoming the 15th member of West Greene Basketball's 1,000 Point Club!

Kyle, a Division I commit to Gardner-Webb, was one of four Raiders to reach the medal stand at the Beast of the East Tournament. He was the only one of the four to reach the Semifinals and finished 4th at 170 pounds, going 5-2 in 7 total bouts. Also earning medals was Jackson Henson, Trey Howard, and Caleb Morris.

Nick led Carmichaels to a 28-8 win over Western Beaver to advance the Mikes to the WPIAL Quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.  Nick ran for 234 yards on 16 carries, scoring touchdowns on runs of 61 and 56 yards and he topped the 1,000-yard mark for the season! Carmichaels will play Clairton in the next round.

Rhea, who has enjoyed a phenomenal freshman season, continued that into the postseason as Waynesburg dominated Avonworth, 5-0 in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. Rhea scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Raiders to a second straight appearance in the WPIAL Semifinals.

Down 4-2 to Obama Academy in the 25th minute of the second half, Gavin brought Waynesburg from behind with back-to-back goals less than 5 minutes apart. After the teams traded 2 more goals, it was Gavin again with the game-winner in overtime! He finished the day with 4 goals and an assist in the 6-5 win.

Blake scored a hat trick on his senior night to help the Raiders rout Yough, 9-0. Then two days later at Brownsville, with a share of the Section 3 (2A) Title on the line, Blake scored both Waynesburg goals in a 2-1 win over Brownsville.  With that win, Waynesburg finished as Section Co-Champions (with Charleroi).

In a key Conference win that helped keep the Rockets' playoff hopes alive, DL was great both on offense with touchdown catches of 19 and 42 yards and also on defense as he grabbed two interceptions!  Jefferson-Morgan defeated Mapletown by a score of 21-6 to improve their conference record to 2-2.

Aaron, a senior at Waynesburg, and Matt, a junior from Carmichaels both turned in great performances at the WPIAL AA Golf Championships.  Each spent significant time at or near the top of the leaderboard and both qualified for the PIAA Western Regional as Aaron finished tied for 3rd and Matt ended his day tied for 6th.

In a couple of key Section matches last week, Abby led the Raiders with outstanding performances, to wins over Charleroi and previously unbeaten Beth-Center. Abby registered 12 kills against the Cougars and 14 against the Bulldogs as the Raiders claimed sole possession of first place in the Section.

Typically reserved for an athlete from one of our broadcasts, we simply can't overlook Dylan's performance at Avella Friday. Dylan accounted for all of the Maples' 48 points, scoring 7 touchdowns! He set a new WPIAL single game rushing record with 524 yards! Dylan led the Maples to a 48-32 win over the Eagles.

Madison, a senior at Jefferson-Morgan, edged closer to 100 career goals when she scored 5 goals in an 11-0 blowout win over Derry. She recorded a hat trick before the game was even 8 minutes old! Her fifth goal put her at 97 for her career and she also added 2 assists as Waynesburg improved to 2-0 in the Section.

The Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the young season, amassing over 500 yards of offense in a 53-7 win over Avella. Ben got the scoring started with a 76-yard kickoff return on the opening kickoff and lead the way with 233 rushing yards on just 11 carries. He also had a 40-yard reception and a total of 3 touchdowns.

Probably more recognized for her pitching, Jade's bat showed up big in the State Championship game where she went 4-5 with a double and 2 RBI. In the circle, Jade bounced back after a rocky start to allow just 1 run on 5 hits, striking out 5 in the final 5 innings. The State Champion Pioneers won, 9-8.

In two state playoff wins, McKenna went 5-7 with an RBI, 4 runs scored, and 5 stolen bases. She scored each game's first run to give the Pioneers early leads. In the quarterfinals, she led off the game with a bunt, caught the defense off guard to steal her way to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Jade, a freshman pitcher, certainly didn't let the big stage of the WPIAL Championship Game intimidate as she pitched a complete game shutout over Monessen. She also joined in an offensive onslaught, driving in 2 runs in the 10-0 win. It was the second straight WPIAL title for West Greene.

In a 6-1 win over Leechburg in the WPIAL Semifinals, West Greene, led by Madison, did all their offensive damage in the first two innings. Madison started with an RBI double in the first and then blasted a 3-run homerun in the second. The Pioneers will play Monessen in the WPIAL Final.

In a 17-0 rout of Bishop Canevin in the WPIAL Quarterfinals, Kaitlyn was one of 6 Pioneers to bat twice in the first inning. Her first at bat was a 2-run homerun over the left field fence.  Her second was a 2-run double. That's 6 total bases, and 4 RBIs plus a run scored, all in one inning!

The Rockets batted 18 in the top of the first inning Monday at Mapletown, so there was plenty of offense to go around but Joe's day stood out as he reached base all 4 times he stepped to the plate with a walk and 3 singles. He was also the only Rocket to score every time up in a 21-2 win in 3 innings.

In a key section game against Monessen, the freshman pitcher Kylie was great, holding the Greyhounds to just 4 hits in a 6-0 shutout. She struck out 6. Kylie also scored the game's first run after leading off the third with a single. The win gave the Mikes sole possession of 2nd place.

After falling behind in Mapletown early, Zach tied the game with a 2-run blast over the left field fence in his first at bat. It was then his 2-run single the next inning that gave West Greene a 4-2 lead with all 4 driven in by Zach. He would reach base twice more and add another RBI in a 14-7 win in 8 innings.

In a game to determine first place in Section 3, Hunter shut down Brownsville from the mound, striking out 10 in just 5.2 innings of work.  Twice he struck out the side! Hunter allowed just 2 hits and both of Brownsville's runs were unearned. The Raiders stayed undefeated in the section with a 5-2 win.

Gavin, with 3 technical falls and a major decision in the finals, won his 3rd State title and remained undefeated in his high school career! Colin, after a first round loss, won 5 straight bouts to come all the way back in the consolation bracket and take 3rd place. He went 6-1 in 7 bouts at Hershey!

The biggest stage wasn't too big for Freshman Rizor. In the State Semifinals, Kaitlyn went 2-for-3 with a double in a 5-2 win that put West Greene in the State Championship Game. In the title game, Kaitlyn reached base twice with a walk and a single, which was 1 of only 4 West Greene hits as they lost 3-2.

She then had 2 singles in a 4-1 win over Saegertown. She scored 5 times and drove in 3 last week as the Pioneers advanced to the PIAA Semis!

Natalie, the Mikes' starting shortstop, accounted for 8 outs defensively with 6 assists and 2 put outs. She also singled and scored.

In the WPIAL Championship Game, Maddie struck out 12, holding Chartiers-Houston to just 3 hits and 2 unearned runs as the Rockets won their first ever title, 3-2. In their 4 WPIAL Playoff Games, Maddie was outstanding, striking out a total of 52 without issuing a walk!

Inspirational....Just 3 days after the death of her father Chris, Camryn and the Rockets picked up a win to reach the WPIAL Semifinals where Camryn would single and hit a homerun in a win over Frazier. She never even missed a practice! Camryn reached base 4 times in the two games and scored twice, but it really wasn't about stats this week. #teamdugan

In a first-round playoff win over Freeport, Erica allowed only 4 hits and struck out 7. She retired 10 of the last 11 she faced. At the plate, it was her 2-run homerun that broke a 2-2 tie that gave the Mikes the lead for good.  She reached base 3 times and scored twice in the 9-2 win.

Needing a win to keep from falling behind Bentworth in the Section standings, Jacob Kinsell led the Mikes to a 7-1 win over rival Jefferson-Morgan as he pitched a complete game, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 7. The Rockets' lone run was unearned.

With a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win, Hunter turned in a fantastic complete game performance against Chartiers-Houston, striking out 12! Hunter also went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored what turned out to be the game winning run as Waynesburg won 4-1.

After allowing five base runners including an RBI single in the first two innings, Gage slammed the door on West Greene, retiring 16 of the final 17 batters he faced. The one Pioneer to reach base during that stretch, did so via an error. The Rockets went on to win 5-1.

In a win over Mapletown, Bailey tossed a no-hitter with 13 K's while going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a single, scoring 3 runs. Madison went 3-for-3 with 2 homeruns, a single and a sacrifice, 6 RBI and 3 runs scored, all one day after her no-hitter with 18 K's against Hundred.

In the section opener against Brownsville, Hunter went 3-for-3 with a homerun, two doubles, and a walk. He scored all three of the Raider runs. On the mound, he worked six innings, striking out six, in a hard fought 5-3 loss.

A.C. won his second WPIAL title Saturday, defeating Latrobe's Luke Pletcher who at the time was ranked #1 in the country at 132 pounds!  Headlee's 2-1 win in ultimate tiebreaker earned him the tournament's outstanding wrestler award as well.

Caleb had faced Logan Macri 4 times already this season, losing 3 of the bouts. After back-to-back 1st period falls to reach the finals, Caleb defeated Macri, 4-2 to win the Section 4-AAA title! The win puts him in position for a possible #1 seed at the WPIAL Championships.

Scoring a game-high 21 points, Nikki led Jefferson-Morgan to a 53-42 win over Cornell in the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs. The Lady Rockets are the first Greene County Basketball team to reach the WPIAL Quarterfinals since 2009, the season before GreeneSports began!

In 4 WPIAL Team Tournament matches, Brendan went 4-0 with a decision, a fall and two technical falls.  With those 4 wins, he set the new school record for most career wins at 144! The Rockets would finish in 4th place,  narrowly missing a berth in the State Tournament.

In a win over Bentworth, Caroline was the game's leading scorer with 28 points.  Late in the second quarter of that win she surpassed 1,000 points for her career, becoming only the seventh Lady Mike in school history to reach that milestone.

Dom was the leading scorer in back-to-back Section games last week, scoring 20 against Carmichaels and putting up 29 in a huge win over Section-leading Brownsville.  The two wins pulled the Raiders into a tie for second place in Section 4-AA.

West Greene had lost the last 4 they played against Mapletown, but snapped that slump in a big way with a 55-29 win Friday.  Craig was a huge part of that as he was the game's leading scorer and dominated the glass. He scored a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

After going 5-0 at the Sheetz Classic in Greenville, Colin continued his hot start in the marquee bout of the county rivalry match with Jefferson-Morgan.  Colin squared off against Billy Bowlen and controlled the entire bout, winning 7-2.  The Raiders went on to win, 38-22.

In a very tight PAC Championship Tournament game, Brandon kept his team alive with key save after key save as Waynesburg and Grove City went into overtime, tied at 1. The Yellow Jackets would eventually fall to Grove City, 2-1 in double overtime.  Brandon finished with 13 saves.

In Waynesburg's first playoff appearance in 11 years, Austin carried the load for the offense, stepping up for Hunter Cenname, who was injured early on. Austin scored on a 70-yard run and ended the night with 133 yards rushing.  The Raiders fell however to South Fayette, 65-6.

In a game where drives were consistently stalling deep in opponents' territory, it was Bo's kicking that made the difference.  Bo connected on two 22-yard field goals, one in the 2nd quarter and one in the 3rd quarter to put the Rockets up 6-0. They went on to beat rival Carmichaels, 12-0.

In the early stages of a match against West Greene, Lindsay took to the service line tied at 3. She ran off 13 straight service points to put the Mikes up 16-3 on their way to a sweep of the Pioneers. Two days later, she posted 19 assists and 11 kills in a win over rival Jefferson-Morgan.

Hunter carried the ball on all but a handful of Waynesburg's offensive plays in a 26-21 win over Southmoreland. He rushed for 189 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 20, 64, and 44 yards. On defense, he sealed the victory with an interception in the end zone in the final moments.

In a span of less than 10 minutes in the first half, the Raiders scored 4 goals against Uniontown, 3 of them by Lily.  She wasn't done with just a hat trick though. Lily went on to score two more in the second half accounting for five of the seven Waynesburg goals in a 7-0 shutout win!

In our very first golf broadcast, Liam stood out with a great round, shooting a 2-over, 38 at the Greene County Country Club.  Liam shot par on all of the first 6 holes before back-to-back bogeys.  He led the rest of the field by 6 strokes as the Mikes cruised past Jefferson-Morgan.

We usually try to feature a performance that we saw in person, but it's hard to overlook Adam's performance on Friday.  Adam rushed for 210 yards on just 14 carries and scored five touchdowns! He carried the Maples to a 30-2 win, their first win over Carmichaels since 2005.

Ryan went 2-for-2 with two singles in the early part of the WPIAL Championship Game and scored the Mikes' only run, giving them an early 1-0 lead.  Ryan was the only Mike with multiple hits. The game was was eventually completed 2 days later after lightning and California won, 6-1.

In back-to-back playoff games, two days apart, Morgan started her day with a 2-run homerun in the top of the first inning of each to get the Rockets out to early leads.  In the quarterfinals it led to a 9-1 win, but in the Semifinals, South Side Beaver stormed back and won 5-3.

Emily was on base all 4 times she stepped to the plate with 3 singles and a walk. Her first 2 hits drove in the Raiders' first 3 runs. She also made a critical play late when she caught a runner attempting to steal second, stranding a runner at third. Waynesburg defeated Freeport, 11-6.

After being knocked out of the game by a line drive on Monday, Aaron bounced back with a gem on Friday, allowing only 1 hit through 7 innings. His opponent, Taylor Lehman, was even better though, tossing a no-hitter.  Lehman also doubled and scored in the 8th, and Keystone Oaks won the game, 1-0 on a total of 2 hits.

A.C. reached the State Semifinals with wins of 8-3 and 9-1 and set up another rematch with rival Dalton Macri.  Macri won a close bout, 5-3 but A.C. battled back to later avenge last week's loss to Sam Krivus by scoring a defensive fall with 14 seconds left in the bout to take 3rd Place!

Sean first qualified for the PIAA AA Cross Country Championships when he ran a 17:07 at Copper's Lake for a sixth place finish in the WPIAL.  He then went on to Hershey's Parkview Course where he registered a time of 16:47 to finish sixth in the state!

Brent piled up 169 total yards of offense, 126 of it on 14 carries, and scored two touchdowns in West Greene's 23-7 win over Mapletown.  The win snapped a 26-game losing streak for the Pioneers.

Zach recorded outstanding wins (Fall :22, Fall 5:34, 18-17 in semifinals, and a Fall in :58 in the finals) to claim the 125 lb. WPIAL title.  It was the only AAA title for Greene County.  He will join Derrick Nelson in Hershey this weekend.

Colton recorded two first period pins and then an 8-0 decision in the finals to win the WPIAL AA title at 135 lbs.  Blumer's title was the only AA title for Greene County, who will send a total of  4 to the PIAA AA Southwest Regional.
