4/1/24		Robbie Wilson-Jones Carmichaels Baseball	With the Mikes down 6-1, Robbie took the mound in the 5th and would eventually pick up the win. He allowed 0 runs and only 2 hits the rest of the way, striking out 5.  In the bottom of the 8th, Robbie hit a walk-off RBI double to complete the come-from-behind, 7-6 extra inning win over Jefferson-Morgan.
3/4/24		Roan Tustin Waynesburg Wrestling	Greene County got a total of 5 wrestlers through to Hershey.  Roan was the only one to reach the Regional Final as he picked up a quick fall in the first round and back-to-back decisions (4-1 and 3-1) to reach the title bout. Roan lost a hard fought 3-0 decsion in the finals to finish as WPIAL runner-up.
2/26/24		Colin Whyte West Greene Wrestling	One of six Greene County wrestlers to medal at WPIALs, Colin was the highest placewinner, taking the sliver at 215 pounds. Colin pinned his way to the finals where he met 3-time State Champion Rune Lawrence. All placewinners will compete in the PIAA Southwest Regional in Altoona this week.
2/19/24		Parker Burns West Greene Basketball	Parker stepped up big when it mattered most, leading the Pioneers to a 58-47 WPIAL First Round playoff win over Avella.  He led all scorers with 20 points.  It was the second time this season that Parker scored as many as 20 in a game.  The Pioneers advanced to the Quarterfinals to face Imani Christian.
2/12/24		Kasie Meek West Greene Basketball	Nursing an injury, Kasie came off the bench in the 3rd quarter and led her Pioneers from down 2 at the half to up 17 after 3 in a 45-32 Senior Night win over Jefferson-Morgan.  Three days later, she led the team with 14 points as the Pioneers defeated Mapletown in the regular season finale, 59-35.
2/5/24		Avery Davis Waynesburg Basketball	The Raiders stayed unbeaten in section with two wins last week.  Avery was the leading scorer for the team, putting up 16 points in a win over McGuffey and 15 points in a win over Yough.  Those wins have set the stage for Waynesburg to clinch a section title with a win over South Park this week.
1/29/24		Lane Allison West Greene Basketball	Down 6 points after 3 quarters, West Greene suddenly positioned themselves for a potential Section title with a huge, 46-43 come-from-behind win over Monessen.  Lane was the leading scorer in the game with 21 points. With Monessen on the schedule again this week, thte Pioneers control their own destiny for an outright Section title.
1/8/24		Roan Tustin Waynesburg Wrestling	Roan, who had only wrestled 6 bouts so far this season, some of them at 215 pounds, entered the TRICADA Tournament at 285 pounds and went 4-0 to win the 285-pound title. In the finals, he knocked off the top-seed and defending WPIAL runner-up Joe Baronick of Burgettstown by 3-1 decision.
12/25/23		Brock Bayles Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	The Rockets picked up their first section win with a 48-19 victory over West Greene.  Brock's bout with Johnny Lampe was one of the better matchups of the night, going into the ride-out periods tied at 1.  An escape for Bayles in the second ride-out period ultimately won the bout 2-1.
12/11/23		Dane Woods Waynesburg Basketball	Both the girls and boys teams from Waynesburg proved too much for their non-section oppenent Carmichaels last week.  Both games ended up in the mercy rule. Dane was a key contributor for the boys who won 64-37.  He recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
10/30/23		Breydon Woods Waynesburg Football	In the regular season finale, Breydon needed 399 yards to reach the 4,000-yard career milestone, and a monster first half put that within reach.  Breydon ran for 247 yards and 3 touchdown on 16 carries in the first half alone! Unfortunately an injury would limit him in the second half of Waynesburg's playoff clinching 45-27 win over Charleroi.
10/23/23		Billy Whitlatch West Greene Football	West Greene needed a win to clinch a home playoff game and Billy led the Pioneers to a convincing 31-16 win over Jefferson-Morgan.  With Colin Brady injured and unavailable, Billy carried the load with 258 rushing yards on 26 carries. He had touchdown runs of 30, 5, and 23 yards.
10/16/23		Deakyn Dehoet Jefferson-Morgan Football	Deakyn had a monster game as the Rockets blew past Monessen, 46-12.  Deakyn had touchdown receptions of 68, 25, and 80 yards and started the second half with a 78-yard kickoff return.  He finished the day with 192 yards on 6 catches with 3 touchdowns and a 2-point conversion catch.
10/9/23		Ani Cree Carmichaels Volleyball	In their first match with Jefferson-Morgan, the Mikes fell short in a 5-set match, 3-2.  Carmichaels avenged that loss with a sweep of the Rockets last week.  Ani was a big part of that as the Mikes seemed to go on  runs every time she served.  At one point Ani had 3 consecutive aces. She also contributed 12 digs.
10/2/23		Braden Benke Waynesburg Golf	Greene County sent 7 golfers to the WPIAL Individual Championships last week. With his First Round score of 82 at Willowbrook Country Club on Monday, Braden was the only one to advance to the Final Round on Monday, October 2nd at Butler Country Club.
9/25/23		Will Murray Carmichaels Football	The Mighty Mikes picked up their second win of the season and first in Tri-County South play with a 27-8 win over Mapletown. Carmichaels rushing attack went over 300 yards and Will led the way for the offense, carrying the ball 25 times for 178 yards and a touchdown.
9/18/23		Johnny Lampe West Greene Football	Johnny's physhical play was on full display in a 47-14 win over Carmichaels to open conference play.  As a fullback that had some great blocks throughout, Johnny's power-running resulted in 4 goal line touchdowns. As a linebacker Johnny was a tackling machine and also recorded a forced fumble on a sack.
9/11/23		Bailey Rafferty Mapletown Volleyball	In a hard fought 5-set battle with Carmichaels, Mapletown prevailed with a 15-13 win in the final set. Bailey led the Maples to victory, leading in both kills and assists with 8 kills and 16 assists in the match.  She would add another 13 assists and 5 aces in a 5-set loss to California two day later.
9/4/23		Abby Kidd Waynesburg Volleyball	After winning their section opener at Beth-Center, the Raiders improved to 2-0 in Section 3 (2A) with a sweep of Bentworth.  Abby led the way and was a force that the Bearcats couldn't handle as she led the team in kills with 8 and added 4 digs.  The Raiders won by scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-18.
8/28/23		Jake Stephenson Waynesburg Football	The Raiders opened the season with a dominating Week 0 win over Carmichaels, 35-0.  Jake led the way both on the ground and through the air.  He rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and he threw for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns, completing 13 of 17 pass attempts.

6/5/23		Drew Layton Waynesburg Track & Field	The WPIAL Pole Vault Champion took things to another level at the State Championships at Shippensburg.  On his third attempt at 15' 3", Drew cleared the bar to set a new school record and to claim the State Title! Drew is the third Greene County Athlete this season to claim individual PIAA Gold.
5/29/23		Carys McConnell Carmichaels Softball	Helping to power the Mikes to the WPIAL Finals, Carys had a hand in all 3 Carmichaels runs in a 3-1 win over Frazier. Carys' RBI single drove in the game's first run in the 1st inning. Her solo homerun in the 3rd made it 2-0, and after a walk in the 5th, Carys scored on an Ali Jacobs double.
5/22/23		Emma Zehner Waynesburg Softball	Waynesburg was running out of outs against Ligonier Valley, trailing 2-0 in the 6th. With two outs, back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Emma who was down to her last strike when she hit a gap shot to right-center, clearing the bases and essentially sending the Raiders to the WPIAL Semifinals!
5/15/23		Dani Stockdale Waynesburg Softball	Dani was our "McCracken Pharmacy Player of the Game" two weeks prior for her effort in a win over South Park.  Last week, Dani once again took the award, going 4-for-4 at the plate, in a  4-0 win over Seton LaSalle.  The win clinched an undefeated Section record for the Raiders.
5/8/23		Tyler Richmond Carmichaels Baseball	Tyler hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 6th to give Carmichaels a 10-0 win over West Greene, which clinched a playoff spot for the Mikes! The homerun capped off a great game for Tyler who went 4-for-4, including a double too, and drove in 4 runs.  He also made an incredible catch in centerfield.
5/1/23		Lexi Six West Greene Softball	West Greene completed the season sweep of Mapletown with a 12-1 win in Rogersville.  Lexi led the way offensively for the Pioneers with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored, and 4 RBI. She also went 2-for-4 in a win over Jefferson-Morgan and added another double in a 6-5 loss to Chartiers-Houston.
4/24/23		Sophia Zalar Carmichaels Softball	Two more big wins for Carmichaels to stay undefeated. Sophia had 2 hits including an inside-the-park homerun in an 11-1 win over Jefferson-Morgan Wednesday and then she went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles in an 11-6 win over Chartiers-Houston on Friday.
4/17/23		Bailey Barnyak Carmichaels Softball	The Mikes took their undefeated record to a key Section matchup at West Greene. Bailey, a freshman, was locked into a pitchers' dual and made a big statement by tossing a no-hitter against the Pioneers!Bailey struck out 8 and the Mikes improved to 10-0 with a 1-0 victory.
4/10/23		Mason Switalski Waynesburg Baseball	Waynesburg got their first win of the season with a 7-2 Section win over Brownsville.  Mason pitched a complete game, striking out 7 without walking a single batter.  At the plate, he was 2-for-3 with a couple of singles and an RBI.  The Raiders went on to sweep Brownville with a 13-2 win the next day.
4/3/23		Aydan Adamson Carmichaels Baseball	Carmichaels started the section season with a sweep of Jefferson-Morgan and Aydan was a big part of that. In a 3-0 win Monday, Aydan pitched 4.2 innings of shutout baseball allowing just one hit.  He struck out 5. In a very different 12-3 win Tuesday, Aydan contributed at the plate with 2 hits and 3 RBI.
3/20/23		Ella Menear Mapletown Swimming	For the third year in a row, Ella has brought State Swimming Gold back to Greene County!  Ella repeated her feats from last season, taking the Gold in the 200 Individual Medley and finishing as the State Runner-up in the 100 Backstroke.  Ella finished her high school career with a total of 6 state medals.
3/13/23		Brody Evans Waynesburg Wrestling	After losing a tight decision, 4-3 to Haydn Packer of Jersey Shore in the State Quarterfinals, Brody won 3 bouts in a row to get a rematch with Packer in the Consolation Final. Brody won 4-3 to take 3rd place at 189 pounds. Brody, a Mapletown student, went 5-1 over the weekend to win his first ever state medal.
3/6/23		Josie Horne Waynesburg Basketball	In a "play-in" game for the PIAA State Playoffs, Waynesburg and Mohawk were tight throughout. Mohawk took a 1-point lead with 37 seconds to play. As time ran out, Josie took a pass from Kaley Rohanna and hit the buzzer-beater to send the Raiders to the State playoffs, 44-43.
2/27/23		Adam McAnany Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	A week after taking 3rd at the 2A Southern Sectional in Burgettstown, Adam went 5-1 at the WPIAL Championships, taking 3rd place at 189 pounds.  In the last two weekends, Adam is 8-2 and his only two losses are to 2-time State Champion Rune Lawrence from Frazier.
2/20/23		Kaley Rohanna Waynesburg Basketball	Two weeks after reaching 1,000 career points, Kaley matched her career-high (from earlier this season) by putting up 31 points when it mattered most as the Raiders defeated Seton-LaSalle in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, 64-55.  Waynesburg moves on to the Quarterfinals for the third straight year!
2/13/23		Lane Allison West Greene Basketball	In a disappointing season for the Pioneers, Lane was a bright spot. Last week, Lane put up the two highest game-point totals in the county this season, with 36 in a loss to Geibel and 43 in a season finale win over Mapletown. Of the 5 highest game-point totals in the county this season, Lane has 4 of them.
2/6/23		Colin Andrews Carmichaels Basketball	In a must-win game for Carmichaels playoff hopes, the Mikes trailed Bentworth by 6 points in the final 30 seconds, then by 2 in the final seconds when Dom Colarusso found Colin fresh off the bench for a buzzer-beater 3 to win the game! The Mikes went from almost eliminated to a playoff spot 3 days later.
1/30/23		Hudson Guesman Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In a winner-take-all match for the final postseason spot, Jefferson-Morgan opened up a 24-3 lead early, but Beth-Center, with a fall at 121 pounds, closed the gap to 12 with four bouts to go. Hudson's pin with 8 seconds left in the 2nd period all but sealed the win for the Rockets, who went on to win 39-30.
1/23/23		Kasie Meek West Greene Basketball	After a lackluster first half that had the Pioneers trailing Mapletown 20-19 at halftime, Kasie led the way in a dominating second half for a 30-point win. Kasie was a force inside and ended up with a game-high 19 points as the Pioneers won their 70th straight section game, 70-40.
1/16/23		Avery Davis Waynesburg Basketball	In a key Section Game against rival South Park, Avery came up big off the bench.  The only player to score in each quarter, Avery put up a total of 16 points to lead all scorers. The Raiders ran away with it and defeated the Eagles, 51-32 to improve to 3-1, tied atop the Section 4 standings.
1/9/23		Rocco Welsh Waynesburg Wrestling	Coming off of his 172-pound title at the prestigious POWERade Wrestling Tournament (his first POWERade gold) a week earlier, Rocco went on to claim his third TRICADA title, reaching the finals on 3 falls in a combined time of 5:11. He won by major decision in the finals to win the 172-pound title.
12/19/22		Eli Makel Waynesburg Wrestling	In a rival match with Canon-McMillan Eli ended up playing a big role in securing a Waynesburg win. With the Raiders up, 27-9, they bumped Eli up to  heavyweight. His 7-4 decision with four bouts to follow ended up being the deciding points and final points scored by Waynesburg in a 30-27 victory.
11/7/22		Landan Stevenson Mapletown Football	The Maples got their first ever WPIAL Playoff win by beating Leechburg 41-28.  As he has done all season, Landan led the way.  He scored 5 touchdowns as he rushed for 290 yards.  He also surpassed Dylan Rush as the new all-time leading rusher at Mapletown.  His current mark stands at 5,972 career yards.
10/31/22		Ella Menear Mapletown Volleyball	The Maples won two playoff games last week, earning their first ever trip to the WPIAL Semifinals! Ella, one of the senior leaders on the team, racked up the most digs in both games with 11 vs Eden Christian and 18 against Greensburg CC. She also contributed a combined 24 kills in the two wins.
10/24/22		Peyton Cowell Waynesburg Soccer	The Lady Raiders advanced to the WPIAL Quarterfinals with a very tight, 1-0 win over Aquinas Academy in the 1st Round.  Peyton, the goalkeeper, was stellar in net, earning her eighth shutout of the season.  None bigger than this postseason win where she racked up 14 saves to preserve the win.
10/17/22		Krista Wilson Mapletown Volleyball	The Maples continued their remarkable season with another lopsided sweep over Jefferson-Morgan. Krista led the way with 19 kills, 8 digs, and 3 aces.  In three matches last week, all Mapletown sweeps, Krista racked up total of 41 kills! The Maples have swept their last seven matches.
10/10/22		Dalton Taylor Waynesburg Soccer	In a scoreless game that appeared headed for overtime, Dalton took a feed from Dylan Pester 48 yards out and sent a strong high shot off the fingertips of the goalkeeper and just under the crossbar to give the Raiders a 1-0 win!  The win avenged an earlier 4-1 loss to Washington.
10/3/22		Landan Stevenson Mapletown Football	Landan's dominating season for the undefeated Maples continued in a 52-20 win over California. He rushed for 251 yards and 4 touchdowns on 30 carries while also throwing a TD pass, kicking a 34-yard field goal, and accounting for 7 points in PATs either by kicking, throwing or running.
9/26/22		Ashlyn Basinger Waynesburg Soccer	Ashlyn continued her absolutely dominating season by scoring 3 of Waynesburg's 4 goals in a non-section 4-1 win over Serra Catholic.  She tallied an assist on the first goal and scored the next three, giving her 30 goals, roughly halfway through the season!
9/19/22		Tyler Richmond Carmichaels Football	To open Tri-County South play, Tyler scored 4 touchdowns in a 46-27 win over West Greene. His 39-yard interception return near the end of the first half was the turning point in the game. Ty finished with 189 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns on just 6 receptions.
9/12/22		Kaley Rohanna Waynesburg Soccer	In a tightly contested match that could potentially go a long way in helping to decide the section, The Lady Raiders pulled out a 1-0 win over Chartiers-Houston.  The game-winning goal, and only goal of the night, came in the second half on a beautiful feed from Kaley to Ashlyn Basinger for the goal.
9/5/22		Cole Jones Jefferson-Morgan Football	The Rockets picked up their first win since Week 3 last season with a 15-8 win over Waynesburg. Cole was involved in all of the scoring with an 80-yard touchdown pass, a 1-yard touchdown run, a 2-point conversion run, and an extra point. He finished the game 6-for-12 passing for 127 yards.
8/29/22		Alec Anderson Carmichaels Football	Carmichaels led a balanced attack in their season-opening shutout of Waynesburg, 25-0. Alec stood out though as both the leading passer and leading rusher, going 12-25 for 190 yards with two touchdowns through the air and rushing for 65 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown.

6/13/22		London Whipkey West Greene Softball	In two state playoff games, London was the Pioneers' biggest offensive threat, going a combined 6-for-8. She went 4-for-4 with 3 singles and a key homerun in a 9-8 win over Conemaugh Valley in the first round. Then in the Quarterfinals, London singled and doubled in an 8-2 loss to DuBois Central Catholic.
6/6/22		Dawson Fowler & Drew Layton Waynesburg Track & Field	After both claiming WPIAL Gold: Dawson taking the Triple Jump title and Drew the Champion in Pole Vault, Both would go on to medal at the State Championships as well.  Dawson took 5th in the state with a jump of 44' 1.5." Drew was the runner-up in Pole Vault with a mark of 14' 6".
5/30/22		Payton Gilbert West Greene Softball	From the designated player postition in the WPIAL Semifinals against a very good pitcher, Payton went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Her triple in the 2nd inning scored the game's first run and she would add two singles after that. The Pioneers went on to beat Springdale 5-2 to advance to WPIAL Championship!
5/23/22		Kiley Meek West Greene Softball	Kiley was great both pitching and at the plate, as despite 7 County teams qualifying for the WPIAL Quarterfinals, only the Lady Pioneers advanced to the Semifinals.  Kiley pitched a complete game shutout and held Mapletown to just 4 hits, while striking out 12! She was 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBI in the 7-0 win.
5/9/22		Kayla Larkin Jefferson-Morgan Softball	Entering in relief against West Greene, Kayla gave up a double to the first batter, but than retired 12 of the last 15 she faced, including 8 in a row, to keep the Pioneers in check in a 6-4 Jefferson-Morgan loss.  Kayla followed that up with a 2-hitter in a 7-2 win over Mapletown where she also crushed a 2-run homerun.
5/2/22		Kendall Lemley Waynesburg Softball	As the winning pitcher in both, Kendall was a big part of key back-to-back section wins for the Raiders. She struck out 5 in a 14-4 win over Mount Pleasant and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a homerun and 2 RBIs. Then in a 14-9 win over South Allegheny, Kendall struck out 4 and hit a 3-run homerun.
4/25/22		Drake Long Carmichaels Baseball	Battling for first place in Section with Bentworth, Drake was stellar on the mound, throwing a complete game shutout to defeat the Bearcats, 8-0. Drake only allowed 4 hits (all singles), and struck out 11 batters. At the plate he collected a single and a double with an RBI and a run scored.
4/18/22		Kiley Meek West Greene Softball	The Pioneers stayed undefeated in section with a 9-0 win over Mapletown. Kiley pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing only 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out six. Kiley also contributed at the plate with an RBI single in the fifth, the first run of a 5-run inning as the Pioneers put the game away.
4/11/22		Hunter Hamilton West Greene Baseball	Hunter went 2-for-2 plus two walks with a double and a homerun to lead the Pioneers to a 13-0 win over Mapletown in the Section opener.  He scored three runs in the win. The very next day he would add two more doubles as the Pioneers swept the Maples with a 12-2 win.
3/21/22		Ella Menear Mapletown Swimming	Another remarkable swimming season for Mapletown's Ella Menear in a County with no swim teams!  After taking WPIAL Gold in both the 100 backstroke, where she set a new WPIAL record, and the 200 IM, Ella went on to states where she brought home Gold in the 200 IM, and a Silver in the 100 backstroke!
3/14/22		Mac Church & Rocco Welsh Waynesburg Wrestling	On his way to his second straight state title, Mac never gave up a takedown in 4 bouts and defeated Matt Repos of Central Dauphin, 3-1 for the 132-pound crown. Rocco was completely dominant on his way to his first state title. He recorded a fall and 3 technical falls including a 24-8 rout in the 172-pound Title Bout!
3/7/22		Brody Evans Waynesburg Wrestling	Brody, a Mapletown junior wrestling under co-op, is having a breakout season! Brody became a fixture in the Waynesburg lineup this season and has amassed a record of 37-10, going all the way to the WPIAL Finals at 189 pounds!  Brody has finished as runner-up to Mt. Lebanon's Mac Stout  both in Sections and WPIALs.
2/28/22		Noah Tustin Waynesburg Wrestling	One of 6 Waynesburg Champions at the Section 4 (3A) Championships, Noah collected his 100th career victory during the tournament, becoming the fifth current team member to reach that milestone.  In a rubber match with familiar foe and top seed Ty Banco of Trinity, Noah won the 285-pound title with a 9-4 decision.
2/21/22		Seth Burns West Greene Wrestling	As the 4-seed coming in, Seth pulled off possibly the biggest upset of the WPIAL Championships when he knocked off top seeded Jack Kazalas of Quaker Valley, 3-2 in the 113-pound Semifinals. Burns lost in the Finals to finish 2nd and is one of four Greene County 2A wresters to advnace to the Southwest Regional.
2/14/22		Cohen Stout Mapletown Basketball	With a playoff spot on the line for the Maples and in a tight game with Avella, Cohen came up big. Mapletown trailed by 7 at the half and pulled into a tie after 3 quarters. Cohen was then clutch down the stretch with 10 of his 22 points coming in the fourth quarter and overtime.  The Maples went on to win, 62-58.
2/7/22		Cole Homet Waynesburg Wrestling	With the Raiders up 12-3 still relatively early on in the WPIAL Championship Match, Cole was called upon to wrestle just his second bout this season, still recovering with a badly injured arm from a severe car accident. Cole would inspire his team with a 5-4 decision on the way to a 35-18 win over Connellsville.
1/31/22		Sophia Zalar Carmichaels Basketball	In what turned out to be our only broadcast of the week, Sophia lit up the scoreboard in a non-section 49-33 win over Jefferson-Morgan.  Her 28 points marked a career high for the Junior.  Just three nights later, she would set a new career high with 34 points in a loss to California.
1/24/22		Chris Barrish Carmichaels Basketball	Chris led his team to a key Section win and reached a milestone in the process in a 69-37 win over Jefferson-Morgan. The win allowed Carmichaels to leap-frog the Rockets in the standings and Chris put up 25 points to easily lead all scorers in the game.  In the process, he reached the career 1,000-point milestone!
1/17/22		Landan Stevenson Mapletown Basketball	In a critical Section game that would solidify the winner as "in the mix" for a playoff spot, Landan led Mapletown to the hard fought, 51-49 win over West Greene. In a game that was close throughout and tied late, Landan's 26 points were more than double anyone else in the game.
1/10/22		Anna Durbin West Greene Basketball	West Greene trailed their county rival Waynesburg throughout the game and trailed by 4 heading into the 4th quarter. As the leading scorer in the game with 20 points, Anna led the way to an impressive comeback. The Pioneer defense also held the Raiders to zero field goals in the fourth and went on to win, 52-41.
12/20/21		Tyler Richmond Carmichaels Basketball	In a tight game that had multiple lead changes throughout and was tied at 37 at halfime, Tyler was the catalyst, partiularly in the third quarter, as the Mikes were able to open up a 7-point lead at the end of three. 11/1/21		Ella Menear Mapletown Volleyball	The Maples won their first Section Title in program history this season and Ella led her team to their first ever playoff victory when she racked up 13 kills, 15 digs, and 3 aces in a sweep of Apollo-Ridge. She would also put up 8 kills and 39 digs in a 3-1 loss to California in the WPIAL Quarterfinals.
10/25/21		Ashlyn Basinger Waynesburg Soccer	Playing familiar foe McGuffey in the Preliminary Round of the WPIAL Playoffs, Ashlyn led the Raiders to a convincing 5-0 win! She scored a hat trick and added an assist to help the Raiders advance to the Round of 16. It was Waynesburg's first WPIAL playoff win since the 2017 Championship Game.
10/18/21		Sarah Stephenson Waynesburg Volleyball	In a huge section win over previously unbeaten Frazier, Sarah led the way to a convincing sweep (25-21, 25-13, 25-15) of the Commodores, putting up 22 kills and 7 blocks.  The win put the Raiders in clear position to claim 2nd place in the Section and kept hopes alive to catch Frazier.
10/11/21		Michael Stewart Carmicahels Football	Carmichaels never saw the ball in the second half of a 40-6 win over Monessen that was cut short due to lightning. The first half was all they needed. Michael made an amazing catch on the 61-yard opening score and ran for 2 more TDs. Maybe his best catch of the night came on a touchdown called back on a penalty.
10/4/21		Colin Brady West Greene Football	In a game for the top spot in the Tri-County South Conference, the Pioneers took command of the conference with a 41-20 win over Carmichaels. Colin led the West Greene offense with 184 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns.  His last two scores in the second half put the game out of reach for the Mikes.
9/27/21		Macee Cree Mapletown Volleyball	Macee put up a combined 60 assists in two more section wins for the Maples! In a sweep of West Greene, Macee had 31 assists and followed that up with 29 assists and 6 digs in a sweep of Avella.  The Maples have now swept every team in the section to stay unbeaten.
9/20/21		Nate Jones Waynesburg Soccer	After an 0-4 start, the Raiders picked up their first win last week, winning BIG with an 8-0 win over Southmoreland! Nate led the team as he seemed to be in complete control whether on the attack or dropping back defensively. He ended up with a goal and two assists in the win.
9/13/21		Krista Wilson Mapletown Volleyball	After opening the season with a sweep of Geibel where she had 6 kills and 6 aces, Krista came up big two days later, in a sweep of Jefferson-Morgan (25-15, 25-9, 25-15). Krista registered 4 aces, 7 digs, and 20 kills! The Maples are 2-0 in Section play and have not yet lost a single set.
9/6/21		Breydon Woods Waynesburg Football	The Raiders snapped a 15-game losing streak with a dominating 64-20 win over Bentworth.  Breydon led the way racking up huge numbers.  In 21 carries, Breydon rushed for 275 yards and 4 touchdowns! He scored on runs of 55, 11, 48, and 4 yards. The Raiders improved to 1-1, still in non-conference play.
8/30/21		Trenton Carter Carmichaels Football	The Mikes trailed by a point at the half but ran away with an opening night 54-33 win over Waynesburg.  Carmichaels scored 8 touchdowns and Trenton had a hand in six of them with 4 touchdown passes and two rushing TDs. Trenton ended up going 15-for-25 with 141 passing yards and added 51 yards on 11 carries.

6/21/21		Olivia Kiger West Greene Softball	In her last 13 plate appearances of the season, Olivia went 8-for-12 with 2 doubles, a triple, a sacrifice bunt, and 4 RBIs, helping to lead the Pioneers to the State Championship Game where she also started a double-play with a strong throw home from right field. West Greene ultimately settled for PIAA silver, losing 2-1.
6/14/21		Kiley Meek West Greene Softball	Tied 3-3 against Shade, Kiley hit a 2-run homerun and pitched out of a 7th inning jam to win 5-4. Then tied at 4 against Cambridge Springs, Kiley hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th and the Pioneers went on to win, 6-5. Two game-winning homeruns and two complete game pitching wins in the state playoffs!
6/7/21		Katie Lampe West Greene Softball	The Pioneers already had an early 4-run lead, when Katie blew the game wide open with a bases-clearing triple in the 2nd. She scored all four times she stepped to the plate, going 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs. West Greene defeated Union 17-2 in 4 innings to claim their fifth straight WPIAL title.
5/31/21	Paul Schofield / Trib	Taylor Shriver Waynesburg Track & Field	The WPIAL Champion in Pole Vault, Taylor capped her High School career with a State Gold Medal! Her mark of 13' in the state meet was the second highest ever by a WPIAL vaulter, just a quarter-inch shy of the record! Taylor will continue her academic and athletic careers at the University of Akron.
5/24/21		Corey Wise West Greene Baseball	In a game that featured alot of offense on both sides, Corey was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4 with three singles and a double, driving in two of the Pioneers' 12 runs in a 12-7 win over Sewickley Academy.  The win was the first ever playoff win for West Greene baseball as the Pioneers advanced to the WPIAL Quarterfinals.
5/17/21		Nick Ricco Carmichaels Baseball	In a 5-3 win over Beth-Center to claim the Section title, Nick came through as the only Mike with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 in big moments at the plate.  His 2-out, 2-run single gave the Mikes the first lead at 2-0.  Later with a 3-2 lead, Nick's 2-out double set the stage for Stush Ferek's homerun that put the Mikes up 5-2.
5/10/21		Meghan Braun Waynesburg Softball	Pitching in relief with the game tied at 4, Meghan allowed just one run on 5 hits, striking out 5  over 4 innings, and picked up the win. Her performace at the plate was a big reason for the win as she went 3-4 with 2 homeruns, 5 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. The Raiders beat McGuffey, 11-5 and clinched a playoff spot!
5/3/21		Logan Higgins Waynesburg Baseball	A day after losing 12-2 to Yough, Waynesburg flipped the result with a 14-4 win over the Cougars. Logan pitched a complete game with his pitch count expiring during the last batter he faced. He struck out 6.  At the plate, Logan was on base 4 times with a single, a double and two walks, driving in 2 runs.
4/26/21		Kendall Lemley Waynesburg Softball	Kendall pitched a complete game shutout, facing just one batter over the mininum, allowing only 2 hits while striking out 7. At the plate, Kendall went 3-for-4 plus a walk with a single and 2 doubles. Driving in runs with each hit, she ended with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored in a 13-0 win over Carmichaels.
4/19/21		Lincoln Pack Waynesburg Baseball	Waynesburg's lead-off hitter, Lincoln, was on base 4 times, scored 4 runs, and drove in 3.  Though he only had one hit, it was a big one, as he hit a 2-run homerun in the 2nd. He would also score the tying run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th inning to send the game to extra innings where Waynesburg beat Charleroi 9-8.
4/12/21		Kyle Clayton Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	In a rocky top of the 1st inning, down 3-0, Kyle took the mound in relief with the bases loaded. His first pitch, induced a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.  Kyle went on to pitch 4 more innings and got the win. At the plate he went 3-for-4 plus a walk with 4 runs scored in a 15-6 win over Mapletown.
4/5/21		Dalton Lucey West Greene Baseball	West Greene avenged a 7-5 loss the day before with a 13-5 win over Jefferson-Morgan and while several Pioneers had good days at the plate, Dalton led the way going 4-for-5 with 4 singles and 2 RBI.  He also pitched in relief and shut down the final 4 batters he faced to finish out the win.
3/29/21		Waynesburg Wrestling State Champions	Waynesburg took the team Gold at the Individual State Tournament two weeks ago and followed that up with Gold in the State Dual Tournament.  They completed their undefeated season with blow out wins over Cathedral Prep (54-12), Willaimsport (50-13), and Central Dauphin (42-3).
3/22/21		Ella Menear Mapletown Swimming	A 2-time WPIAL medalist last year, Ella went to new heights this season, claiming WPIAL gold in both the 100 Backstroke where she set a new Upper St. Clair pool record and the 200 IM. At states, she claimed bronze in the 200 IM and took the gold in the 100 Backstroke, becoming Mapletown's first ever State Champion!
3/15/21		Mac Church, Wyatt Henson, Luca Augustine Waynesburg Wrestling	The Raiders claimed three State Titles as Wyatt (145 lbs) got his second and Mac (120 lbs) & Luca (172 lbs)each won their first in an unbelievable day for Waynesburg in Hershey. The Raiders ran away with the Team Title placing 5 wrestlers in the State Finals and taking home 3 gold, 2 silver, and a 5th place medal.
3/8/21		Kaley Rohanna Waynesburg Basketball	The Lady Raiders won their first playoff game since a 1986 win over East Allegheny with a 54-19 win over (who else?) East Allegheny Wednesday. Kaley led the Raiders in scoring with 17 and Waynesburg ended the game on a 33-0 run! Kaley also put up 11 in a tough overtime loss to Beaver Falls in the Quarterfinals.
3/1/21		Cole Homet Waynesburg Wrestling	After finishing 3rd in each of the previous two seasons, Cole, found his way to the top of the WPIAL podium this season at 138 pounds. Cole won hard fought bouts both in the Semifinals and the Finals to win the first Waynesburg title of the night.  He was later joined by Wyatt Henson & Luca Augustine as WPIAL Champs.
2/22/21		2020-21 Waynesburg Wrestling	The WPIAL Team Champions continued their dominance into the Individual Season as the Raiders advanced 12 wrestlers to the Section 4-AAA Championships and those twelve went an undefeated 24-0 to claim an unheard of 12 Section Titles! All twelve now set their sights on the WPIAL Championships.
2/15/21		Ryan Howard Waynesburg Wrestling	Back-to-back WPIAL Champion Waynesburg had a dominating run to both the Section 4 & WPIAL titles last week, winning four matches by a combined 256-24. While there were 9 Raiders that went 4-0 last week, only Ryan compiled 4 pins, all coming in either the first or second period of his heavyweight bouts.
2/8/21		Clara Paige Miller Waynesburg Basketball	Waynesburg came back from early deficit to lead Washington by 3 as the 3rd quarter was winding down. The game turned big time when C.P. hit a half-court buzzer beater and Waynesburg outscored the Prexies 22-5 the rest of the way.  C.P. ended up with 18 points in the 57-34 Waynesburg win!
2/1/21		Taj Jacobs Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	The Rockets had a pretty good week, just missing 4-0 because of a last second loss to Monessen. Taj finished the week with 84 points in 4 games: 18 in a win over Waynesburg, 28 in a win over West Greene, 17 in the Monessen loss, and 21 in an overtime win over McGuffey.
1/25/21		Jersey Wise West Greene Basketball	Starting 0-2 against tough competition, the Pioneers have put together 4 straight wins and Jersey has been the leading scorer in each of the last three, all played last week. She put up 19 points against Avella, 24 points against Waynesburg, and 27  points against Monessen.
1/18/21		Drake Long Carmichaels Basketball	After a 76-55 loss to Frazier to finally start this crazy season, Carmichaels almost exactly flipped the score in a convincing 74-55 win over Waynesburg in non-section action.  Drake led all scorers in the game with 26 points, 15 of those points coming from 5 shots beyond the arc.
11/2/20		Cayla Rush Waynesburg Volleyball	In a very tight match where every set went past the 25-point regulation, Waynesburg swept Seton La-Salle to earn their first trip to the WPIAL Quarterfinals. Cayla racked up 25 assists in the win and with the Raiders down 24-20 in the third, Cayla served up 6 straight points to win 26-24 and close out the match!
10/26/20		Emma Robinson Waynesburg Volleyball	The Raiders had to knock off their toughest Section foes in back-to-back matches in order to claim the Section Title and did just that, behind Emma's dominate performances at the net.  She racked up 29 kills in a 3-2 win over Frazier and followed that up with a 25-kill performance in a 3-1 win over Carmichaels.
10/19/20		Macee Cree Mapletown Volleyball	Mapletown beat both County teams in their section last week, setting the Maples up for their first ever playoff appearance.  Macee was big spreading the ball around as she put up 23 assists against Jefferson-Morgan and 26 against West Greene. The Maples actually played 4 matches last week and Macee racked up 103 assists!
10/12/20		Gabe McConville Waynesburg Cross Country	Gabe completed a perfect Section season, winning every dual meet this year! He set a personal record in Waynesburg's win over Fort Cherry with a time of 16:42. Gabe also placed 5th in the Bald Eagle Invitational held at White Oak Park. Gabe will have his sights now set on the postseason later this month.
10/5/20		Owen Maddich Jefferson-Morgan Football	There were big offensive numbers in Jefferson-Morgan's 40-34 win over Bentworth.  None stood out more than receiver Owen Maddich's 180 yards on six receptions and three touchdowns.  The win gave the Rockets back-to-back wins at their temporary home field at Waynesburg University.
9/28/20		Kenzie Wise West Greene Volleyball	With West Greene trailing Mapletown in the second set, the Pioneers went on a 14-point run with Kenzie at the service line to come-from-behind and take a 2-0 lead in the match.  The Maples would win the next two, but West Greene would ultimately win their first section match, 3-2.
9/21/20		Michael Stewart Carmichaels Football	In a 43-8 win over Mapletown, Michael was key to the Carmichaels offense, and was the main target for quarterback Trenton Carter, as he racked up 138 yards on six receptions. Three of his receptions went for touchdowns.  The Mikes improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2013.
9/14/20		Bailey Jones Carmichaels Football	In the season-opener against rival Jefferson-Morgan, Bailey scored on Carmichaels' first posession and the Mikes never looked back. Five more touchdowns came from five different players, but Bailey provided the bulk of the offense with 168 rushing yards on 22 carries.  The Mikes went on to win 41-6.

3/16/20		Ella Menear WPIAL Swimming	Ella, who swims independently for Mapletown, took home two medals at the WPIAL Championships, taking 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley and 2nd in the 100 Backstroke, missing gold by just 0.04 of a second! She was to compete in both events at the state level, before the Championships were postponed.
3/9/20		Waynesburg Medalists PIAA Wrestling	Waynesburg took 5 wrestlers to the State Wrestling Tournament in Hershey and all five brought home hardware! 3/2/20		Wyatt Henson Waynesburg Wrestling	One of three WPIAL Champions for Waynesburg with Mac Church & Luca Augustine, Wyatt knocked off two-time State Champion Sam Hillegas of North Hills, taking Hillegas down twice in a 4-3 decision to win the 138-pound crown! The Raiders took home 3 WPIAL titles for the first time since 2004!
2/24/20		Elizabeth Brudnock West Greene Basketball	The game's leading scorer with 19, Elizabeth was one of 3 Pioneers to hit a 3-pointer at the start of the game leading to an 11-0 lead. Then after Avella came all the way back to take the lead in the 3rd, Elizabeth hit two 3's to swing momentum back to West Greene, who advanced to the WPIAL Semifinals with a 55-45 win.
2/17/20		Jonathan Wolfe Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Jonathan went 6-3 over the weekend finishing 3rd in Section 1-AA at 220 pounds and then as the only Greene County wrestler still with a shot to advance to Regions, he defeated Burgettstown's Tyler Cody, 7-3 to take 7th in the WPIAL.  Jonathan will be the lone Greene County wrestler at the SW Regional at IUP.
2/10/20		PIAA Runner-up Waynesburg Wrestling	What a weekend in Hershey! In their first trip to the State Team Tournament, Waynesburg knocked off AAA Wrestling powers Central Dauphin, Erie Cathedral Prep, and Bethlehem Catholic on their way to the State Championship Match! Ultimately the Raiders settled for second with a 38-21 loss to Nazareth.
2/3/20		Eli Makel Waynesburg Wrestling	With the WPIAL Team Title coming down to the final bout at 170 pounds, Eli needed at least a major decision for Waynesburg to win.  Shortly into the second period, Eli turned Seneca Valley's Marshall Adamson to his back, and picked up the fall, to win Waynesburg's first WPIAL title since 1989!
1/27/20		Noah Tustin Waynesburg Wrestling	Tied at 21 in the Section 4 Finals, things looked grim when Noah was put in a cradle in the 195-pound bout but he somehow fought it off and ended up on top of Canon-Mac's Tyler Rohaley to record a huge fall! The match ended in a 30-30 tie and the Raiders won the Section Title on the 10th criteria (near fall points).
1/20/20		Austin Crouse West Greene Basketball	Austin was the Pioneers' leading scorer with 17 points against Jefferson-Morgan in a win that helped secure West Greene's position in the playoff picture. It was Crouse's back-to-back three-pointers early in the second half that helped open up a 12- point lead in the 3rd quarter. West Greene went on to win 53-46.
1/13/20		Gregory Staggers West Greene Basketball	Gregory led the Pioneers to an early lead by putting up 8 points against Mapletown in the first quarter. Then when the Maples were making a run late in the game, it was Gregory who hit two big buckets to secure the Section win, 47-40.  Gregory finished with 12 points on the night.
1/6/20		Nate Jones Waynesburg Wrestling	Nate, a freshman, was unseeded coming into the TRICADA Tournament, but went 4-0, knocking off the #3 and the #2 seeds on his way to the 113-pound final. There he picked up a 7-5 decision over #4 seed Julian Moore of Fort Cherry to win one of five TRICADA titles won by Waynesburg.
12/30/19		Mac Church Waynesburg Wrestling	In his first trip to the POWERade Tournament, Mac became the first POWERade Champion from Waynesburg since 2004. In his 5 bouts, Mac recorded 4 major decisions including the 106-pound final. It's been a good first month for Mac, as he also claimed 2nd at the Ironman and 5th at the Beast of the East.
12/23/19		Jersey Wise West Greene Basketball	Jersey led the Pioneers with 20 points in a 62-11 win over Jefferson-Morgan and then scored another 20, leading her team from down 9 after 3 quarters to a 61-57 win over Wheeling Central Catholic. Jersey has been the leading scorer in 6 of the undefeated Pioneers' 8 games, scoring at least 20 in 5 of those games.
12/16/19		Tahj Jacobs Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Tahj led the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets to their first win of the year as he was all over the floor both offensively and defensively in a 71-34 win over Mapletown to open Section play.  Tahj led the Rockets in scoring with 13 points and also racked up game-leading stats in assists and steals.
12/9/19		Nate Stephenson Waynesburg Wrestling	Coming off an injury-shortened season last year, Nate looked like a 'man on a mission' in the first match of what is expected to be an exciting Waynesburg wrestling season. His 12-4 major decision over Noah Linderman clinched the team victory over Burrell and the Raiders went on to win, 40-22.
11/11/19		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	Ben became the first player in WPIAL history to top 3,000 yards in a single season when he ran for 150 yards Friday. Ben ended the season with 3,066 yards and 50 touchdowns, one shy of the WPIAL single season record.  He finished his career with 7,092 yards after a tough loss to Sto-Rox in the WPIAL Semifinals.
11/4/19		Kolin Walker West Greene Football	Kolin scored the first West Greene points on a 7-yard touchdown run, recorded a sack-fumble that was returned for TD, and scored another touchdown on a 12-yard run.  Walker rushed for 113 yards on 14 carries in a 36-0 shutout win over Greensburg CC as the Pioneers won thier first playoff game since 1993!
11/4/19		Bailey Jones Carmichaels Football	Scoring both first half touchdowns and a 2-point conversion, Bailey led Carmichaels to a 14-0 halftime lead over Brownsville. Bailey ended up with 120 yards rushing on 17 carries and the Mikes went on to shut out the Falcons, 26-0 to close out their season on a 3-game winning streak.
10/21/19		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	On a 63-yard touchdown run, late in a win over Jefferson-Morgan, Ben surpassed fellow Pioneer Rodney Wilson as Greene County's all-time leading rusher.  Wilson's mark of 6,304 had stood since 1993. The win clinched the Tri-County South title for West Greene, also their first outright title since 1993.
10/14/19		Taylor Christopher Carmichaels Volleyball	Taylor led the way as Carmichaels clinched a playoff spot last week and even kept their hopes alive for at least a share of the Section title.  First, in a sweep of West Greene, Taylor registered 17 kills and 3 blocks.  She followed that up with 15 kills and 10 blocks in a 3-1 win over Jefferson-Morgan.
10/7/19		Pioneer Defense West Greene Football	Doing something a little different this week to honor an outstanding performance by West Greene's defense in a key win over California.  The Pioneers held the Trojans to just 34 yards offensively! They also collected 4 sacks and recovered 5 fumbles on their way to a 35-0 shutout win.
9/30/19		Remmey Lohr Carmichaels Golf	Remmey made history by becoming the first girl to compete in the WPIAL AA Boys Individual Golf Championship.  Not only did she compete, but she earned a medal, finishing in 13th place, shooting an 11-over 81! She now moves on to the PIAA Western Regional on October 14.
9/23/19		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	On his third carry against Monessen, Jackson topped the 1,000-yard mark for the season and it was only Week 4! He went on to rack up over 300 yards on 22 carries and scored 4 touchdowns in a game where West Greene had to come from behind but was able to eventually cruise to a 49-24 win over the Greyhounds.
9/16/19		Rhea Kijowski Waynesburg Soccer	Rhea was a factor in all three goals when Waynesburg upset top-ranked South Park, 3-2 in overtime. She scored the opening goal late in the first half, then after falling behind, she had a beautiful assist to her sister Jillian for the equalizer. And just 29 seconds into overtime, Rhea blasted a shot for the game winner!
9/9/19		Jonathan Wolfe Jefferson-Morgan Football	The Rockets picked up their first win of the season, a 42-0 shutout of Mapletown. Jonathan was the game's leading rusher with 144 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 10-yard touchdown run.  At one point in the second half Jonathan ran for back-to-back 20 yard gains.
9/2/19		Kevin Kelly Carmichaels Football	Kevin was the catalyst in getting the Mikes' football season started on the right track with a 34-25 win over Beth-Center.  The quarterback was the leading rusher of the game with 176 yards on 25 carries and scored all 4 of Carmichaels' offensive touchdowns on designed quarterback runs.

6/10/19		Mackenzie Carpenter West Greene Softball	In a scoreless game in the 4th, Mackenzie, a 4-year starter in right field, gunned down a runner at the plate to keep Clarion off the board.  She would later start a relay to 3rd to cut down a potential lead-off triple in the 5th. With great defense in both PIAA games Mackenzie also has one of only 2 Pioneer extra base hits.
6/3/19		Jade Renner West Greene Softball	The only Pioneer with multiple RBI in the game, Jade went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI sigles in a dominating 11-0 win  over Union where West Greene claimed their 4th WPIAL crown in a row! Jade was dominant inside the circle, pitching the shut out while allowing only two Union hits.
5/27/19		Daniel Layton Waynesburg Track & Field	After stumbling in last year's PIAA Championships and then needing a PIAA ruling to allow him to run the 110m hurdles in the WPIALs this year, Daniel went on to defend his WPIAL title from a year ago and then with a run 14.53, reached the top of the podium at Shippensburg as the State Champion!
5/20/19		Gavin Pratt Carmichaels Baseball	In a fast-paced game that featured a pitcher's dual and a total of only 4 hits, Gavin outdueled Zander Malik and the Jeannette Jayhawks as the Mikes advanced to the WPIAL Quarterfinals with a 1-0 win.  Pratt pitched the complete game shutout, allowing just 2 hits while striking out seven.
5/6/19		Luke Robinson Waynesburg Baseball	In a battle for playoff position in a game that seemed destined to be shortened due to rain, Luke took the Raiders on his shoulders to a 5-1 win over McGuffey, with the game called in the sixth.  Robinson tossed 11 strikeouts from the mound and at the plate, he blasted three extra base hits with a double and two homeruns!
4/29/19		Matt Barrish Carmichaels Baseball	Carmichaels trailed Chartiers-Houston 1-0 through six and the Mikes had only registered 1 hit.  Then came the 7h inning... The Mikes tied the game with a couple of hits and Matt then drove in the go-ahead run with a single.  He then came on to get the save, retiring the Bucs in order in the bottom of the 7th.
4/22/19		Evan Zimmer Waynesburg Baseball	Evan had the strikeout pitch working in a 4-inning outing against Beth-Center.  With only 12 possible putouts to record, Evan struckout 8 hitters.  He gave up 2 runs, only 1 earned, and  left the game with the score tied at 2 for a no decision. Beth-Center would go on to win the game in walk-off fashion, 4-3.
4/15/19		Jade Renner West Greene Softball	Jade was dominant in a 10-0 win over Jefferson-Morgan as she allowed just one hit and struck out 12, walking only one, in six innings. She struck out 9 of the last 11 batters she faced. At the plate, Jade went 2-for-3 with 2 singles plus a walk, her runner scored twice, and she drove in a run.
4/8/19		Ben Jackson West Greene Baseball	In a 5-4 extra inning section win over Jefferson-Morgan, Ben did it all! His day started with an inside-the-park homerun to first tie the game at 1. Then in the top of the 8th, it was his throw from left field that gunned down a runner at the plate to keep the game tied at 4.  Ben then drove in the winning run with a single for the walk off.
3/11/19		Cole Homet Waynesburg Wrestling	With 3 Raiders battling their way in consolations to within 1 win of a PIAA medal, there was only one who reached the podium, as Cole, a freshman went 3-3 in six bouts in Hershey.  He came from behind twice, both in the win to clinch a medal and in his seventh place bout, to finish 7th in the state at 120 pounds.
3/4/19		Trey Howard Waynesburg Wrestling	Leading 1-0 in a tight bout with Latrobe's Jack Pletcher, Trey was able to ride out the entire third period to become the only Raider to reach this year's WPIAL Finals! Trey would drop a tough bout in the finals to finish as the 145-pound Runner-up. He is one of four Raiders who will compete in the State Tournament!
2/25/19		McKenna Lampe West Greene Basketball	The leading scorer for the Pioneers with 18 points, McKenna led West Greene to the WPIAL Semifinals for the third year in a row with a 56-46 win over Sewickley Academy in the WPIAL Quarterfinals.  The win also gave West Greene their third straight berth in the PIAA State Playoffs.
2/18/19		Kolin Walker West Greene Wrestling	The only Section 1-AA Champion from Greene County, Kolin was one of six to qualify for the WPIAL AA Championships. Kolin again was the only one to reach the WPIAL Quarterfinals, and ultimately finished 6th at 182 pounds. He is the only Greene County wrestler to qualify for the PIAA Southwest Regional.
2/11/19		Al Cree Carmichaels Basketball	With 20 of his game-leading 21 points coming after halftime, Al led the Mikes from down 13 at the half to force overtime and ultimately to a dramatic 64-57 win over Chartiers-Houston that ended the season on a high note and brought a fantastic finish to the legendary career of head coach Don Williams.
2/4/19		Luca Augustine & Colby Morris Waynesburg Wrestling	Two of only 3 Raiders to go undefeated in 4 WPIAL Team Tournament matches last week, Luca & Colby went back-to-back with identical technical falls of 23-8 to pull the Raiders from down 11 points to within a point of Canon-Mac in the 3rd Place Consolation. The Raiders unfortunately would ultimately fall to 4th place.
1/28/19		Kaitlyn Rizor West Greene Basketball	On the same night that her Senior class recorded win #72 to become the winningest class in program history, Kaitlyn also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark, becoming the third player in her class (and starting 5) to hit that milestone. She is the 18th player in West Greene history to reach 1,000 points!
1/21/19		Ryan Tuttle Mapletown Basketball	It was a special night for the Maples last Friday at Jefferson-Morgan as Mapletown snapped a 79-game losing streak to defeat the Rockets, 53-49. Ryan was the catalyst in opening up Mapletown's first big lead and was solid all night, putting up a double-double leading the team with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
1/14/19		Colton Stoneking Waynesburg Wrestling	Colton had a great weekend at the Winners Choice Tournament in Fairmont, WV.  Up to that point, Colton's only individual medal of the season was a 6th place finish at TRICADA. At the Winners Choice, Colton went 5-0 to take the 126-pound title!  His was one of 4 titles for the Team Champion Raiders!
1/7/19		Kolin Walker West Greene Wrestling	After suffering a pin in the Quarterfinals of the TRICADA Tournament, Kolin stormed through the consolation bracket, winning 4 straight bouts to claim 3rd place at 182 pounds. He went 5-1 in 6 total bouts, and collected 4 pins. His medal was the only medal won by the Pioneers.
12/31/18		Cole Homet Waynesburg Wrestling	Cole reached the Round of 16 at the POWERade before dropping to consolations, where he won 4 straight bouts to reach the Consolation Semifinals.  He would ultimately finish in 6th place at 120 pounds going 5-3 in eight matches.  Cole was the only Raider to bring home a POWERade medal.
12/24/18		Lucas Garber Waynesburg Basketball	With his team down 10 points in the second quarter, Lucas was the catalyst in a 14-0 run into and out of the half.  The Raiders went on to win a hard fought battle over Belle Vernon, 77-72.  Lucas' 39 points were more than double the point total for any other player in the game.
12/17/18		Matt Barrish Carmichaels Basketball	Playing back-to-back Friday night and Saturday afternoon, Matt put up a team-high 19 points in both games. First in a highly competitive and hard fought overtime loss to California and again in a run away win over West Greene. Barrish has scored at least 15 points in all of the Mikes' first five games.
11/5/18		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	There was one bright spot in West Greene's 52-14 loss to Rochester in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. It was Ben Jackson, on the Pioneers' last offensive snap, running for a 30-yard touchdown and eclipsing the 4,000-yard mark! Ben, playing with a leg injury, became just the sixth Greene County player to reach that milestone!
10/29/18		Gavin Benson Waynesburg Soccer	Gavin put the Raiders in front early when he scored in the first minute of their first round WPIAL playoff against Connellsville.  Gavin went on to record a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Raiders to a 6-2 win.  Unfortunately the season would end just three days later in a 4-0 loss to Deer Lakes.
10/22/18		Nathan Brudnock West Greene Football	The Pioneers needed a win over Jefferson-Morgan to clinch a playoff spot and Nathan led the way to a big win with a total of 155 yard from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns. It was a balanced attack as Nathan rushed for 85 yards and had 70 receiving yards. The Pioneers punced their ticket to the playoffs with a 50-7 win.
10/15/18		Taylor Christopher Camichaels Volleyball	Taylor led the way with 13 kills as Carmichaels cruised to a sweep of West Greene.  She would add 6 more kills in a match with rival Jefferson-Morgan that also ended in a sweep for the Mikes.  The two wins kept Carmichaels' undefeated record intact and set up a showdown with Geibel with the Section Title on the line.
10/8/18		Bailey Pauley Waynesburg Volleyball	In a key section win over Beth-Center, Bailey accounted for 12 kills, and to seal the victory, it was Bailey who was at the service line delivering back-to-back aces to close out the match.  She followed that up with another 4 kills and 3 aces in a sweep of Charleroi as the Raiders improved to 7-2 in the Section.
10/1/18		Matthew Barrish Carmichaels Golf	For the second year in a row, Matt has qualified for the PIAA Western Regional after shooting a 74 at the WPIAL Championships, good enough for an 8th place tie. At the Regional on October 15th, Matt will be looking to qualify for the PIAA Championships, where he placed 11th last year.
9/24/18		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	With first place in the Tri-County South on the line, Ben scored all of West Greene's 3 touchdowns in a 24-6 win over previously unbeaten Monessen. Ben carried the ball 29 times for 122 yards and was also solid defensively. West Greene, at 4-0, is the only team left with an undefeated record in Tri-County South play.
9/17/18		Aliceon Clark Mapletown Volleyball	With the third set tied 7-7, Aliceon stepped to the service line and Mapletown went on an 11-0 run to put the match away as Mapletown swept West Greene by scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-16 to claim their first Section win. Aliceon also registered 9 kills in the match.
9/10/18		Bailey Fudala Waynesburg Soccer	In a hard fought game with Yough to open Section play, the defending WPIAL Champion Raiders were able to come away with a 2-1 win, when Bailey, connected on a free kick from 32 yards out for the game-winning goal with less than a minute to play in regulation.
9/3/18		Jack Church Waynesburg Soccer	Kicking off the Boys Soccer season at the Chartiers-Houston Tournament, Jack scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Steel Valley and assisted on a goal in a 3-2 over Chartiers-Houston as the Raiders were crowned Champions of the tournament.  Jack was named tournament MVP.
8/27/18		Zach Greene Mapletown Football	In a Week Zero preview of a Tri-County South Conference matchup later in the season, Zach accounted for nearly all of the Mapletown offense, rushing for 173 yards on 32 carries including a 25-yard touchdown run to give the Maples a lead in the 4th quarter. Avella was able to answer the score and went on to win, 14-12.

6/18/18		McKenna Lampe West Greene Softball	McKenna picked a good time to have a monster game! In the State Championship Game, McKenna first gave the Pioneers the lead for good with a 2-run homerun in the second inning.  She followed that up with a double, a single, and a late 2-run triple to help put the game away. She hit for the cycle with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.
6/11/18		Madison Renner West Greene Softball	In two PIAA Playoff wins last week, Madison went 5-for-8 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a homerun that gave the Pioneers a 10-0 walk-off win over McConnellsburg in 6 innings. She also pitched the sixth inning of that game, recording the game's only 2 strikeouts. Madison also finished the week with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.
6/4/18		Jade Renner West Greene Softball	Down two runs in the bottom of the 7th, Jade ripped a 2-run double to the left-center gap to tie Monessen at 4. Her runner would then score the winning run as the Pioneers claimed their 3rd straight WPIAL title! Jade, also the winning pitcher, went 2-for-3 plus a walk and drove in 3 runs in 4 trips to the plate.
5/28/18		Madison Lampe West Greene Softball	After going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the WPIAL Quarterfinals, Madison followed it up with a monster Semifinal game, going 3-for-3 including 2 homeruns and a double plus a walk. She drove in 4 and scored 4 in an 8-2 win over Union that puts the Pioneers in their third straight WPIAL Championship Game.
5/14/18		Will Behm Waynesburg Track & Field	Will not only was crowned WPIAL AA Champion in Pole Vault, he also set the new WPIAL AA Championship Meet Record with a vault of 14' 10"! Waynesburg finised with the top 2 vaulters as Daniel Layton, who also won the 110 hurdles title, took 2nd with a vault of 13' 6".
5/7/18		Kylie Sinn Carmichaels Softball	Kylie was dominant both inside the circle and at the plate in a 13-2 win over Jefferson-Morgan.  Her first time through the Rockets' order, Kylie struck out seven batters in a row! She finished with nine K's on the day. At the plate, Kylie was 3-for-4 with 3 doubles plus a walk. She drove in one and scored 3 times.
4/30/18		Patrick Brady West Greene Baseball	In a huge section win over Jefferson-Morgan, Patrick led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored including a 3-run homerun that put the Pioneers up 5-3 after falling behind 3-2. West Greene went on to win 8-6 to keep their playoff hopes alive, pulling them to within a half-game of the Rockets.
4/23/18		Bryce Bedilion Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	After giving up a double on the very first pitch of the game, Bryce completely shut down Mapletown, not allowing another hit and striking out 11 in a 6-inning complete game 12-2 win. At the plate Bryce went 2-for-4 with a couple of singles and a walk and scored 3 runs including the game-winning run in the sixth inning.
4/16/18		Elisa Clark Mapletown Softball	The Maples scored 18 runs on 19 hits in an 18-11 win over Jefferson-Morgan. Elisa had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with 2 singles, a double, and a 2-run homerun.  Every one of her hits drove in at least 1 run and she finished with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored.
4/9/18		Bailee Shimek Waynesburg Softball	In Waynesburg's first Section Game, the Raiders had battled back from down 3-0 to take a 5-3 lead when Bailee sent a fly ball over the fence in left centerfield for a grand slam! The Raiders took a 9-3 lead in the fourth inning and never looked back, beating Brownsville, 11-6. Bailee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 4 RBI.
4/2/18		Rachel Elsenheimer Waynesburg Softball	While the weather has caused an incredibly slow start to the spring sports season as a whole, Rachel is off to an very hot start.  Through 3 games (which included two in Pigeon Forge, TN) Rachel is 9-for-10 for a batting average of .900! The junior third baseman has 2 doubles, a triple, 3 homeruns, and 10 RBI.
3/12/18		Gavin Teasdale Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Gavin made history on Saturday when he won his 4th PIAA State Wrestling Title! In the finals, Gavin deafeated Josh Jones of Saucon Valley, 2-0 to finish his high school career at 162-2. Gavin is the 13th wrestler in history to win 4 PA State titles and Jefferson-Morgan is the first school to produce multiple 4-time champs!
3/5/18		Wyatt Henson Waynesburg Wrestling	Wyatt, a freshman, picked up a pin and a 7-1 decision to join a group of 5 Raiders who reached the WPIAL Semifinals! Wyatt lost to Louis Newell there, but bounced back with 2 wins to claim 3rd place at 120 pounds.  He now heads to the State Tournament in Hershey with a current record of 39-10.
2/26/18		Luca Augustine Waynesburg Wrestling	Luca, a freshman, had wrestled only 13 bouts this season. But his 11-2 record was good enough to earn the top seed in Section 4 at 132 pounds. On Saturday, Luca cruised to the Section Finals with two falls and then picked up a 7-2 decision to claim the Section title! He is one of 11 Raiders to advance to WPIALs.
2/19/18		Connor Main West Greene Wrestling	After being pinned in an upset by Bentworth's Ashton Lopez in the Section 2 Semifinals, Connor came back strong for the WPIAL Championships. He picked up a quick fall and a 4-0 decision to reach the semifinals where he avenged his loss to Lopez with a 8-0 major decision. Connor finished as a WPIAL Runner-up.
2/12/18		Jalen Torres / Jacob Lowry Jefferson-Morgan / Carmichaels Basketball	In the same regular season finale, an 82-61 Carmichaels win over Jefferson-Morgan, Jacob's 19 points led the Mikes to the rivalry win to end their season. Meanwhile, Jalen became the fifth Greene County player this season to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He did so in the final quarter of his final high school game.
2/5/18		Madison Lampe / Darton McIntire West Greene / Waynesburg Basketball	A winter season of milestones continued this past week as Madison joined her sister McKenna in West Greene's 1,000-point club in a win over Geibel. Meanwhile, Darton became Waynesburg's all-time leading scorer when he put up 32 against South Fayette to put his career total at 1,486. Also Carmichaels head Coach Don Williams picked up career win #500 last week!
1/29/18		D.L. Garrett Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Needing 23 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone in a game Friday against Frazier, D.L. put up 24 to become the 14th member of the 1,000-point club at Jefferson-Morgan.  His father (and head coach), Dennis, was the first name on that list in 1975. Unfortunately the Rockets lost to the Commodores, 63-56.
1/22/18		Nate Brudnock West Greene Basketball	In a win that solidified West Greene as a top 3 team in the section,  Nathan led the way with 24 points.  His 16 points in the first half allowed the Pioneers to open up an 18-point lead at the half and they never looked back as West Greene defeated Mapletown, 67-24.
1/15/18		Kristina Aeschbacher Carmichaels Basketball	In a game Carmichaels needed to win to get back into the thick of the Section standings, the Mikes fell just short to California, 39-34. Kristina had a very strong second half effort.  She was the leading scorer in the game with 15 points and kept the Mikes within striking distance until the final minute.
1/8/18		Caleb Morris Waynesburg Wrestling	Caleb breezed to the Finals at the TRICADA Tournament with back-to-back pins in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals and then picked up a 12-3 major decision win in the Finals to claim the 138-pound title. It was his third TRICADA title! Caleb was one of four Greene County TRICADA Champions.
1/1/18		Jackson Henson Waynesburg Wrestling	Jackson, the senior and first-year Raider, followed up an impressive 4th place finish at the Beast of the East, with a 3rd place finish at the POWERade! Jackson went 6-1 in the tournament, cruising to the semifinals where he dropped a tough 4-3 decision. He rebounded with a 7-2 decision over Noah Levett of Kiski to take 3rd.
12/25/17		McKenna Lampe West Greene Basketball	The leading scorer in the game with 31 points, McKenna led the Pioneers to a lopsided win over Jefferson-Morgan, to open section play, and remain undefeated through six games. The bigger story that night though was McKenna becoming the 15th member of West Greene Basketball's 1,000 Point Club!
12/18/17		Kyle Homet Waynesburg Wrestling	Kyle, a Division I commit to Gardner-Webb, was one of four Raiders to reach the medal stand at the Beast of the East Tournament. He was the only one of the four to reach the Semifinals and finished 4th at 170 pounds, going 5-2 in 7 total bouts. Also earning medals was Jackson Henson, Trey Howard, and Caleb Morris.
11/6/17		Nick Mundell Carmichaels Football	Nick led Carmichaels to a 28-8 win over Western Beaver to advance the Mikes to the WPIAL Quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.  Nick ran for 234 yards on 16 carries, scoring touchdowns on runs of 61 and 56 yards and he topped the 1,000-yard mark for the season! Carmichaels will play Clairton in the next round.
10/30/17		Rhea Kijowski Waynesburg Soccer	Rhea, who has enjoyed a phenomenal freshman season, continued that into the postseason as Waynesburg dominated Avonworth, 5-0 in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. Rhea scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Raiders to a second straight appearance in the WPIAL Semifinals.
10/23/17		Gavin Benson Waynesburg Soccer	Down 4-2 to Obama Academy in the 25th minute of the second half, Gavin brought Waynesburg from behind with back-to-back goals less than 5 minutes apart. After the teams traded 2 more goals, it was Gavin again with the game-winner in overtime! He finished the day with 4 goals and an assist in the 6-5 win.
10/16/17		Blake Brewer Waynesburg Soccer	Blake scored a hat trick on his senior night to help the Raiders rout Yough, 9-0. Then two days later at Brownsville, with a share of the Section 3 (2A) Title on the line, Blake scored both Waynesburg goals in a 2-1 win over Brownsville.  With that win, Waynesburg finished as Section Co-Champions (with Charleroi).
10/9/17		DL Garrett Jefferson-Morgan Football	In a key Conference win that helped keep the Rockets' playoff hopes alive, DL was great both on offense with touchdown catches of 19 and 42 yards and also on defense as he grabbed two interceptions!  Jefferson-Morgan defeated Mapletown by a score of 21-6 to improve their conference record to 2-2.
10/2/17		Aaron Yorio & Matt Barrish WPIAL Golf	Aaron, a senior at Waynesburg, and Matt, a junior from Carmichaels both turned in great performances at the WPIAL AA Golf Championships.  Each spent significant time at or near the top of the leaderboard and both qualified for the PIAA Western Regional as Aaron finished tied for 3rd and Matt ended his day tied for 6th.
9/25/17		Abby Gibbons Waynesburg Volleyball	In a couple of key Section matches last week, Abby led the Raiders with outstanding performances, to wins over Charleroi and previously unbeaten Beth-Center. Abby registered 12 kills against the Cougars and 14 against the Bulldogs as the Raiders claimed sole possession of first place in the Section.
9/18/17		Dylan Rush Mapletown Football	Typically reserved for an athlete from one of our broadcasts, we simply can't overlook Dylan's performance at Avella Friday. Dylan accounted for all of the Maples' 48 points, scoring 7 touchdowns! He set a new WPIAL single game rushing record with 524 yards! Dylan led the Maples to a 48-32 win over the Eagles.
9/11/17		Madison Clayton Waynesburg Soccer	Madison, a senior at Jefferson-Morgan, edged closer to 100 career goals when she scored 5 goals in an 11-0 blowout win over Derry. She recorded a hat trick before the game was even 8 minutes old! Her fifth goal put her at 97 for her career and she also added 2 assists as Waynesburg improved to 2-0 in the Section.
9/4/17		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	The Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the young season, amassing over 500 yards of offense in a 53-7 win over Avella. Ben got the scoring started with a 76-yard kickoff return on the opening kickoff and lead the way with 233 rushing yards on just 11 carries. He also had a 40-yard reception and a total of 3 touchdowns.
2016-2017		Ben Bumgarner Waynesburg	ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Congratulations to Waynesburg's Ben Bumgarner, who was named our 2016-2017 Student Athlete of the Year. 6/26/17		Jade Renner West Greene Softball	Probably more recognized for her pitching, Jade's bat showed up big in the State Championship game where she went 4-5 with a double and 2 RBI. In the circle, Jade bounced back after a rocky start to allow just 1 run on 5 hits, striking out 5 in the final 5 innings. The State Champion Pioneers won, 9-8.
6/12/17		McKenna Lampe West Greene Softball	In two state playoff wins, McKenna went 5-7 with an RBI, 4 runs scored, and 5 stolen bases. She scored each game's first run to give the Pioneers early leads. In the quarterfinals, she led off the game with a bunt, caught the defense off guard to steal her way to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly.
6/5/17		Jade Renner West Greene Softball	Jade, a freshman pitcher, certainly didn't let the big stage of the WPIAL Championship Game intimidate as she pitched a complete game shutout over Monessen. She also joined in an offensive onslaught, driving in 2 runs in the 10-0 win. It was the second straight WPIAL title for West Greene.
5/29/17		Madison Renner West Greene Softball	In a 6-1 win over Leechburg in the WPIAL Semifinals, West Greene, led by Madison, did all their offensive damage in the first two innings. Madison started with an RBI double in the first and then blasted a 3-run homerun in the second. The Pioneers will play Monessen in the WPIAL Final.
5/22/17		Kaitlyn Rizor West Greene Softball	In a 17-0 rout of Bishop Canevin in the WPIAL Quarterfinals, Kaitlyn was one of 6 Pioneers to bat twice in the first inning. Her first at bat was a 2-run homerun over the left field fence.  Her second was a 2-run double. That's 6 total bases, and 4 RBIs plus a run scored, all in one inning!
5/15/17		Joe Headlee Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	The Rockets batted 18 in the top of the first inning Monday at Mapletown, so there was plenty of offense to go around but Joe's day stood out as he reached base all 4 times he stepped to the plate with a walk and 3 singles. He was also the only Rocket to score every time up in a 21-2 win in 3 innings.
5/8/17		Kylie Sinn Carmichaels Softball	In a key section game against Monessen, the freshman pitcher Kylie was great, holding the Greyhounds to just 4 hits in a 6-0 shutout. She struck out 6. Kylie also scored the game's first run after leading off the third with a single. The win gave the Mikes sole possession of 2nd place.
5/1/17		Zach Abbott West Greene Baseball	After falling behind in Mapletown early, Zach tied the game with a 2-run blast over the left field fence in his first at bat. It was then his 2-run single the next inning that gave West Greene a 4-2 lead with all 4 driven in by Zach. He would reach base twice more and add another RBI in a 14-7 win in 8 innings.
4/24/17		Hunter Robinson Waynesburg Baseball	In a game to determine first place in Section 3, Hunter shut down Brownsville from the mound, striking out 10 in just 5.2 innings of work.  Twice he struck out the side! Hunter allowed just 2 hits and both of Brownsville's runs were unearned. The Raiders stayed undefeated in the section with a 5-2 win.
4/17/17		Madison Lampe West Greene Softball	In 4 straight wins in 4 consecutive days, Madison had a great week at the plate.  She went 8-14 (.571) with a double and 3 homeruns. She also added a walk. Madison scored 8 runs and drove in 10! The Pioneers outscored their 4 opponents 50-5 last week and improved to 10-0.
4/10/17		Joel Spishock Carmichaels Baseball	Joel had a monster game at Beth-Center. In his four at-bats he hit a 3-run homerun, brought in a run with a groundout, drove in two more runs with a single, and then blasted a 2-run homerun.  Three hits, two homeruns and eight RBI! The Mikes defeated the Bulldogs, 17-6.
4/3/17		Luke Robinson Waynesburg Baseball	Weather has prevented our broadcast season from starting, but one freshman stood out in his first 3 varsity games. Luke has a batting average of .700 (7-for-10) and in two scoreless innings from the mound, Luke recorded 5 strikeouts! The Raiders are 2-1 heading into Section play.
3/13/17		Gavin Teasdale & Colin McCracken PIAA Wrestling	Gavin, with 3 technical falls and a major decision in the finals, won his 3rd State title and remained undefeated in his high school career! Colin, after a first round loss, won 5 straight bouts to come all the way back in the consolation bracket and take 3rd place. He went 6-1 in 7 bouts at Hershey!
3/6/17		Caleb Morris Waynesburg Wrestling	Caleb cruised to the WPIAL Semifinals with a fall and a major decision win, then won a tight 4-3 bout over Luke Landefeld of North Allegheny to advance to the finals.  There he won his second WPIAL title in three years with a 2-0 decision over Pine Richland's Hunter Baxter.
2/27/17		McKenna Lampe West Greene Basketball	McKenna was the game's leading scorer with 18 points and led the Pioneers to the WPIAL Semifinals for the first time in program history with a 51-37 Quarterfinal win over Rochester.  The win also put the Pioneers into the State Playoffs for the first time in program history.
2/20/17		Gavin Teasdale Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Gavin tore through two brackets this past weekend, first winning his 3rd Section 2-AA title with a :26 fall and a technical fall. Then using two technical falls and a 20-8 major decision to win his 3rd WPIAL Title and claim the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler Award. Teasdale's current career record: 114-0.
2/13/17		Krista McCartney Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	The Rockets had only scored two free throws in the second quarter and had fallen behind Mapletown, when Krista suddenly got hot from beyond the arc.  She hit two 3-pointers late in the half to give J-M the lead for good. Krista hit 3 more in the second half and finished with 17 points, in a 46-30 win.
2/6/17		Madison Lampe West Greene Basketball	Madison led the Pioneers in scoring in each of their two games last week, scoring a total of 57 points! She first set a career high with 32 points in a win over Monessen and then helped clinch the program's first section title in 17 years on Thursday, scoring 25 in a 72-37 win over Geibel.
1/30/17		Kolton Rush West Greene Basketball	Kolton, who led the Pioneers in scoring in all 3 games last week, scored a total of 81 points for the week! He started with 33 points in a win over Geibel, and followed that with 28 points in a win over Bentworth. Then in a lopsided loss to Monessen, Kolton still put up 20 points.
1/23/17		DL Garrett & Jalen Torres Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	In a game that featured two rivals in search of their first section win, DL and Jalen nearly outscored Carmichaels by themselves with 22 points each. DL's eight field goals included 3 from beyond the arc and Jalen made 8 free throws to go along with his 7 field goals. The Rockets beat the Mikes, 61-51.
1/16/17		Craig Weaver West Greene Basketball	Heading into a Section game with Mapletown, Craig needed just 15 points to reach 1,000 for his high school career. Exactly 15 minutes into the game, he hit a hook shot from the paint to surpass the milestone. He then sat out the remainder of a 76-27 Pioneer win with 1,001 career points.
1/9/17		Trey Howard Waynesburg Wrestling	Trey, who placed 3rd as a freshman last year at TRICADA, pinned his way to the Finals this year with two 1st period falls and a 2nd period fall in the Semifinals. Trey then defeated Mike Cusick of South Fayette, 3-1 in the finals to claim the title at 145 pounds!
1/2/17		Gavin Teasdale & Caleb Morris POWERade Wrestling	As the top-seed at 120 pounds, Gavin mostly cruised to finals and defeated Logan Macri, 10-4 to win his 3rd POWERade title! Caleb, who was seeded 7th at 132 pounds impressively knocked off the #2 & #3 seeds on his way to the finals where he would drop a tough 4-2 decision to Jake Riegel to finish 2nd.
12/26/16		Lucas Garber Waynesburg Basketball	As section play opened against Elizabeth Forward, Lucas came off the bench early and made an immediate impact offensively for the Raiders. The freshman ended up scoring 25 points which is the most of his young career and led all Waynesburg scorers. Unfortunately the Raiders fell, 74-54.
11/14/16		Ben Bumgarner Waynesburg Cross Country	The State Champion in AA Boys Cross Country, Ben ran a perfect Section season, winning every dual meet. He won the Mingo Classic and A.J. Everhart Invitational. Ben was the Spartan Invitational Champion and took 2nd place at the WPIALs before claiming the State Title in Hershey!
11/7/16		Jonathan Christopher Carmichaels Football	In a wild first round playoff game, Jonathan recorded a Carmichaels single-game scoring record with 36 points. He had 5 rushing touchdowns, ran for three 2-point conversions and threw for another. He ran for 144 yards and completed 6 of 7 passes. Unfortunately the Mikes lost to Springdale, 50-44.
10/31/16		Aubree Ferek Carmichaels Volleyball	Aubree, with 12 points, 10 digs, and 4 kills contributed in several key aspects to help lead the Mikes to a 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14) playoff win over Avella. The win secured for Carmichaels' their first ever berth in the WPIAL Volleyball Quarterfinals.
10/24/16		Autumn Tedrow Jefferson-Morgan Volleyball	On senior night and in a winner-take-all situation for the final playoff spot, Autumn stood tall with 5 kills and 4 blocks to help lead the Rockets, who first  came-from-behind in dramatic fashion to take the first set, 25-23. Then went on to finish the sweep of West Greene with scores of 25-15 & 25-22.
10/17/16		Kiana Blasco Waynesburg Volleyball	The Lady Raiders were looking to clinch their first ever Section title when they hosted Charleroi Thursday. Kiana, with 17 kills and 3 aces led the way to an easy sweep and the Section 3 (2A) Title, 25-15, 25-17, 25-17. Kiana has led the team in kills in every match this season.
10/10/16		4,000-yard Club Greene County Football	On Friday, Dylan Rush (Mapletown) became the 5th Greene County player to rush for 4,000 career yards. He joined Derek Bochna (Mapletown '90) - 4,793; Rodney Wilson (West Greene '94) - 6,304; Rocky Doman (Carmichaels '00) - 4,145; and Lanfer Simpson (Waynesburg '01) - 4,010.
10/10/16		Gavin Benson Waynesburg Soccer	Gavin, a freshman, led the Raiders to their first Section title in 20 years with hat tricks in back-to-back shutout wins last week. First, with 3 goals in a 6-0 win over McGuffey and then 3 more in a 12-0 win over Washington. In 12 games so far this season, Gavin has scored a total of 24 goals!
10/3/16		Aaron Yorio Waynesburg Golf	One of four County golfers to qualify for the WPIAL Individual Championships, Aaron was the only one to qualify for the PIAA West Regional with his 10-over-par 80. On the 15th hole, he scored a hole-in-one to move him into qualifying position on the leaderboard! Aaron finished in 14th place.
9/26/16		Madison Clayton Waynesburg Soccer	Madison, a Jefferson-Morgan student, scored a hat trick to lead the Raiders to a key, 4-0 Section win over Yough. It was the fourth game in a row where Madison had at least 3 goals and her fifth hat trick on the season.  In eight total games this season, she has scored an astounding 24 goals!
9/19/16		Dylan Rush Mapletown Football	In a wild 39-33 win over Avella, Dylan had a monster game! He had a hand in all 5 Maples' touchdowns, opening the scoring by throwing a touchdown pass on a fake field goal, then running for 4 more touchdowns. He compiled an astounding 388 yards on 42 carries!
9/12/16		Colin McCracken Waynesburg Football	For the second time in as many games to open the season, Colin was the best player on the field for the Raiders. In a tough 17-0 loss to McGuffey, Colin rushed for 126 yards on 21 carries and came up big countless times on defense. So far on the season, Colin has racked up 262 yards on 39 carries.
9/5/16		Cody Brown Carmichaels Football	Cody was a big part of the Mikes' huge season-opening conference win over Monessen. He was the team's leading rusher with 72 yards on 10 carries and leading receiver with 2 catches for 93 yards. The last of those catches, a 66-yard touchdown on a halfback pass, gave Carmichaels a 20-6 lead in the 4th quarter.
8/29/16		Ben Jackson West Greene Football	In a game that didn't go the Pioneers' way, Ben was the highlight for West Greene. He compiled 101 yards rushing on 16 carries, including a 57-yard run for touchdown. Ben played well defensively as well, forcing a fumble on a sack. Unfortunately the Pioneers fell to Bentworth, 40-12.

6/20/16		Kaitlyn Rizor West Greene Softball	The biggest stage wasn't too big for Freshman Rizor. In the State Semifinals, Kaitlyn went 2-for-3 with a double in a 5-2 win that put West Greene in the State Championship Game. In the title game, Kaitlyn reached base twice with a walk and a single, which was 1 of only 4 West Greene hits as they lost 3-2.
6/13/16		Madison Lampe West Greene Softball	In two State Playoff games last week, Madison went 5-for-7 and over the 2 games, hit for the cycle! In a 12-2 win over Clarion, Madison was a single shy of the cycle. She then had 2 singles in a 4-1 win over Saegertown. She scored 5 times and drove in 3 last week as the Pioneers advanced to the PIAA Semis!
6/6/16		Lexie Mooney West Greene Softball	With the game still relatively close, 7-3 in the  the 6th inning, Lexie came to the plate with the bases loaded and 2 outs. She lined a 3-1 pitch into centerfield and past the centerfielder for a bases-clearing double that put the game out of reach and essentially clinched West Greene's first WPIAL title!
5/30/16		McKenna Lampe West Greene Softball	In two playoff games last week, McKenna went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple, 2 walks, 4 stolen bases and 6 runs scored as West Greene advanced over Union and Monessen to the WPIAL Championship Game. McKenna's effort improved her season batting average to an astounding .629!
5/23/16		Madison Renner West Greene Softball	Madison went 3-for-4 with two homeruns and a double as the Pioneers cruised to the WPIAL Quarterfinals with a 15-0 win over Greensburg Central Catholic. Madison drove in 5 of the 15 West Greene runs. On the defensive side, she struck out 5 and allowed only 2 hits in the 4-inning shutout win.
5/16/16		Natalie McNett Carmichaels Softball	A team leader hitting .554 this season, Natalie came up big defensively in a "win-and-you're-in" game as Carmichaels defeated Waynesburg 5-4 in 9 innings to clinch a playoff spot. Natalie, the Mikes' starting shortstop, accounted for 8 outs defensively with 6 assists and 2 put outs. She also singled and scored.
5/9/16		Matthew Barrish Carmichaels Baseball	In a game Carmichaels needed to win to clinch a playoff spot, Matthew, the starting pitcher, limited rival Jefferson-Morgan to just 1 earned run on 2 hits as he pitched into the 5th inning. That was more than good enough as the Mikes put up 12 runs to clinch a playoff spot with a 12- 2 win.
5/2/16		Madison Lampe West Greene Softball	In a 20-0 blowout of Fort Cherry, Madison went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Four days later she added an RBI single and scored in a 4-0 win over Mapletown that secured at least a share of the first Section Title for the Pioneers since 1983.
4/25/16		Gage Clark Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	Gage led the Rockets to a dramatic extra-inning 5-4 win over rival Carmichaels with an outstanding outing on the mound. Gage pitched 8 innings before being lifted for the ninth. He struck out 9 and limited the Mikes to just 6 hits.  Jefferson-Morgan scored in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
4/18/16		Joel Spishock Carmichaels Baseball	Joel started last week with 3 extra base hits against Mapletown including 2 doubles and a triple. He followed that up with 2 more doubles and 3 runs scored against West Greene. Carmichaels won both Section games in blowout fashion, 18-0 and 17-2 respectively.
4/11/16		Bailey Bennington West Greene Softball	Bailey's offense was particularly instrumental in a statement win for the Pioneers, defeating Chartiers-Houston 11-1 to open Section play.  Bailey reached base all 4 times she stepped to the plate with a double, a single, a HBP, and she reached on an error. Bailey drove in 3 and accounted for 2 runs scored.
4/4/16		Brooke Diamond Jefferson-Morgan Softball	In the first game on the newly dedicated Chris Dugan Memorial Field, Brooke went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles to drive in 3 of the Rockets' 4 runs. Her first double drove in the first 2 runs and her second double extended the Rockets' lead to 4-0. Unfortunately, Monessen would come from behind to win, 5-4 in extra innings.
3/14/16		Gavin Teasdale Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	After pinning 7 of 9 postseason opponents to make it back to Hershey, Gavin put on a different show in Chocolate Town, with 4 Technical Falls. His 23-8 win in 3:30 in the Finals gave Gavin his second straight State Title and ran his undefeated career record to 82-0.
3/7/16		Cole Rush Waynesburg Wrestling	Cole's path to Hershey got a little longer after a Quarterfinal loss Friday. Starting Saturday in the consolations, Cole needed to win 3 straight bouts and did just that, punching his ticket to Hershey with a 3-2 UTB win over rival Matt Oblock. Cole finished 4th in the WPIAL.
2/29/16		Bill Bowlen Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Billy, a Carmichaels student, breezed into the WPIAL Finals where he defeated defending Champion Robert Scherer, 4-3 to win his 3rd WPIAL Title! Bowlen became just the 4th from Jefferson-Morgan to win 3 WPIAL titles and only the 11th in Greene County history!
2/22/16		Trevor Kniha Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In possibly the most competitive weight class at the Section 2-AA Championships, Trevor emerged as the 4-seed to win the 160-pound Title! He defeated top-seed Jaden Datz from Southmoreland, 5-2 in the semifinals and Beth-Center's Dominic Fundy, 3-2 in the Finals.
2/15/16		Emily Ozohonish Waynesburg Rifle	Emily, a Jefferson-Morgan student, was the only County shooter that finished in the top 10 for the WPIAL. Her mark of 200-16x-7c ranked her #10 at the WPIAL Championships! She is one of 3 state qualifiers from the County as Emilee Tuttle from Waynesburg and West Greene's Lexi Keller also qualified.
2/8/16		Kayla Yorko Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	On the night when the Rockets completed an undefeated Section Schedule with a 75-30 win over Mapletown, Kayla was the leading scorer on the floor with a career-high 27 points. She hit six field goals from beyond the arc. That effort also put her over 1,000 points for her career!
2/1/16		Ally Bogden Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	After California dramatically came from behind to take a 1 point lead with 3:21 to play, Ally scored 7 of the last 9 Rocket points to secure a 41-34 win and the team's first ever section title! In a hotly contested, low-scoring game, Ally was Jefferson-Morgan's leading scorer with 10.
1/25/16		Celine Monica Waynesburg Basketball	Celine matched a career-high when, for the second time this season, she put up 25 points. She had scored 25 in a heartbreaking loss to Frazier earlier, but last Monday's effort led the Raiders to a 49-33 win over Bentworth, keeping Waynesburg in playoff position.
1/18/16		Kirsten Garber Waynesburg Basketball	In a key Section matchup at Carmichaels, Kirsten led all scorers with 15 points leading the Raiders to a 10-point win after holding only a 2-point lead at halftime. The win helped the Raiders get a leg up on two other teams fighting for the final playoff spot in the Section.
1/11/16		Shaun Wilson Waynesburg Wrestling	Shaun picked up a fall and a major decision to reach the 138-pound finals at TRICADA. With a 7-2 decision over Doug Gudenburr of Ringgold in the finals, Shaun earned the title and the Outstanding Wrestler Award. Shaun was one of five Waynesburg Champions at the tournament.
1/4/16		Gavin Teasdale Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Gavin cruised to the 113-pound POWERade Finals with a technical fall and 3 major decisions. The championship bout was a great one as Gavin came from behind to defeat Patrick Glory of Delbarton, NJ to win, 6-5. The win was Gavin's 2nd straight POWERade title.
12/21/15		Madison & McKenna Lampe West Greene Basketball	In a section win over Mapletown, Madison led with 13 points and McKenna was right behind her with 10. In fact, the twins have been the top two Pioneer scorers in every game this season! Six games in, all West Greene wins, McKenna has 120 points and Madison has totaled 98.
12/14/15		Darton McIntire Waynesburg Wrestling	An early season game ended up being an epic showdown with Section rival Brownsville Friday and Darton had an epic night himself, leading all scorers with 47 points. He made 15 field goals including 7 from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, the Raiders lost the game in overtime, 95-92.
12/7/15		Liam Shea Carmichaels Basketball	In our first winter season broadcast of the school year, Carmichaels picked up a non-section win on opening night over rival Jefferson-Morgan. Liam led all scorers with 21 points as the Mikes beat the Rockets, 62-46.
11/9/15		Ben Bumgarner Waynesburg Cross Country	Ben was perfect in the Section this past season with 5 section meet wins. He was Champion at the Uniontown Invitational and Runner-up at the Mingo Invitational. In the PIAA State Championships, Ben finished 7th with a time of 16:26.
11/2/15		Shawn Dulaney Carmichaels Football	With a playoff spot awarded to the winner, Shawn led Carmichaels to a 28-0 win over rival Jefferson-Morgan to clinch that spot. Shawn accounted the Mikes' first 20 points, all in the first half. He finished the game with 100 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns.
10/26/15		Morgan Simkovic Jefferson-Morgan Volleyball	In a fantastic match against Frazier, Morgan was credited with 13 kills, 18 service points, and 9 aces. The Rockets fell just short in that one, but bounced back to claim 2nd place with a win over Carmichaels where Morgan racked up 25 kills. That's a total of 38 kills for the week!
10/19/15		Dylan Rush Mapletown Football	The touchdown leader in Greene County, Dylan added two more touchdowns Friday to push his total to 18 on the season. His two scores jump started the Maples to 14-0 first half lead over Bentworth. Unfortunately the Bearcats would score 6 unanswered TDs to win, 42-14.
10/12/15		David Morgan Carmichaels Football	Shutout by West Greene in the first half, David led his team from behind with 26 unanswered points for a 26-6 win. David threw for over 100 yards including a 79-yard touchdown pass. He also scored on an 18-yard run that put the game out of reach with 5:26 left in the game.
10/5/15		Coty Allen Carmichaels Football	In a game with rain and wind and where offense was hard to come by, Coty was the leading rusher with 89 yards on 26 carries. He scored the game's only touchdown late in the first quarter and the Mikes were able to make it hold up for an 8-0 win over California.
9/28/15		Madison Clayton Waynesburg Soccer	Madison, a Jefferson-Morgan student and star soccer player for Waynesburg, has put together quite a start to the season, scoring 14 goals in the first 7 games. She has recorded 4 multi-goal games, including 2 goals in a win over Brownsville last week.
9/21/15		Dylan Rush Mapletown Football	Dylan scored a Mapletown-record 6 touchdowns in a 61-22 win over West Greene. With 5 rushing touchdowns, a defensive touchdown, and three 2-point conversion runs, Dylan accounted for 42 of the Maples' 61 points. He also compiled 211 yards on 21 carries.
9/14/15		Abby Gibbons Waynesburg Volleyball	Abby got the Raiders out to comfortable leads in both the 1st and 3rd sets as she started each set at the service line. She had a run of 6 points to start the 1st and 9 points to start the 3rd. She was also credited with 38 assists and 5 aces as Waynesburg swept Charleroi in straight sets.
9/7/15		Joe Headlee Jefferson-Morgan Football	Joe led the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets to a 33-7 opening night victory over West Greene as he rushed for over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns. Two of his scoring runs came in a 3-touchdown 3rd quarter that allowed the Rockets to pull away from the Pioneers.

6/8/15		Reagan Rush & Morgan Simkovic Jefferson-Morgan Softball	Two of the offensive leaders on the team, Reagan & Morgan combined for 13 hits, a homerun, 5 doubles, 9 RBI, and 7 runs scored during their 6-game playoff run. They helped lead the Rockets to their first WPIAL title and first PIAA Playoff win.
6/1/15		Maddie Ludrosky Jefferson-Morgan Softball	In the WPIAL Championship Game, Maddie struck out 12, holding Chartiers-Houston to just 3 hits and 2 unearned runs as the Rockets won their first ever title, 3-2. In their 4 WPIAL Playoff Games, Maddie was outstanding, striking out a total of 52 without issuing a walk!
5/25/15		Camryn Dugan Jefferson-Morgan Softball	Inspirational....Just 3 days after the death of her father Chris, Camryn and the Rockets picked up a win to reach the WPIAL Semifinals where Camryn would single and hit a homerun in a win over Frazier. She never even missed a practice! Camryn reached base 4 times in the two games and scored twice, but it really wasn't about stats this week. #teamdugan
5/18/15		Erica Burns Carmichaels Softball	In a first-round playoff win over Freeport, Erica allowed only 4 hits and struck out 7. She retired 10 of the last 11 she faced. At the plate, it was her 2-run homerun that broke a 2-2 tie that gave the Mikes the lead for good.  She reached base 3 times and scored twice in the 9-2 win.
5/11/15		Jacob Kinsell Carmichaels Baseball	Needing a win to keep from falling behind Bentworth in the Section standings, Jacob Kinsell led the Mikes to a 7-1 win over rival Jefferson-Morgan as he pitched a complete game, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 7. The Rockets' lone run was unearned.
5/4/15		Hunter Robinson Waynesburg Baseball	With a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win, Hunter turned in a fantastic complete game performance against Chartiers-Houston, striking out 12! Hunter also went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored what turned out to be the game winning run as Waynesburg won 4-1.
4/27/15		Maddie Ludrosky Jefferson-Morgan Softball	With Chartiers-Houston needing a win to clinch the section title, Maddie dominated the Bucs lineup as she tossed a no-hitter, striking out 12, including 8 Ks in a row, first time through the order. The Rockets won 1-0, keeping their hopes alive for at least a share of the title.
4/20/15		Gage Clark Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	After allowing five base runners including an RBI single in the first two innings, Gage slammed the door on West Greene, retiring 16 of the final 17 batters he faced. The one Pioneer to reach base during that stretch, did so via an error. The Rockets went on to win 5-1.
4/6/15		Bailey Bennington & Madison Renner West Greene Softball	In a win over Mapletown, Bailey tossed a no-hitter with 13 K's while going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a single, scoring 3 runs. Madison went 3-for-3 with 2 homeruns, a single and a sacrifice, 6 RBI and 3 runs scored, all one day after her no-hitter with 18 K's against Hundred.
3/30/15		Hunter Robinson Waynesburg Baseball	In the section opener against Brownsville, Hunter went 3-for-3 with a homerun, two doubles, and a walk. He scored all three of the Raider runs. On the mound, he worked six innings, striking out six, in a hard fought 5-3 loss.
3/9/15		Gavin Teasdale & A.C. Headlee Jefferson-Morgan & Waynesburg Wrestling	First Gavin completed his freshman season undefeated and became GreeneSports' first State Champ! Then A.C. completed his senior season with his first State title, defeating 2-time State Champ Luke Pletcher for the second week in a row, earning the Outstanding Wrestler award!
3/2/15		A.C. Headlee Waynesburg Wrestling	A.C. won his second WPIAL title Saturday, defeating Latrobe's Luke Pletcher who at the time was ranked #1 in the country at 132 pounds!  Headlee's 2-1 win in ultimate tiebreaker earned him the tournament's outstanding wrestler award as well.
2/23/15		Caleb Morris Waynesburg Wrestling	Caleb had faced Logan Macri 4 times already this season, losing 3 of the bouts. After back-to-back 1st period falls to reach the finals, Caleb defeated Macri, 4-2 to win the Section 4-AAA title! The win puts him in position for a possible #1 seed at the WPIAL Championships.
2/16/15		Nikki Venick Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Scoring a game-high 21 points, Nikki led Jefferson-Morgan to a 53-42 win over Cornell in the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs. The Lady Rockets are the first Greene County Basketball team to reach the WPIAL Quarterfinals since 2009, the season before GreeneSports began!
2/9/15		Rece Henneman Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Rece, as he has done many times this season, was the leading scorer in all of the 3 final section games, putting up 13 against West Greene, 23 against Geibel, and 27 against Mapletown. The Rockets won all 3, and claimed sole possession of third place in Section 3-A.
2/2/15		Brendan Howard Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In 4 WPIAL Team Tournament matches, Brendan went 4-0 with a decision, a fall and two technical falls.  With those 4 wins, he set the new school record for most career wins at 144! The Rockets would finish in 4th place,  narrowly missing a berth in the State Tournament.
1/26/15		Caroline Cree Carmichaels Basketball	In a win over Bentworth, Caroline was the game's leading scorer with 28 points.  Late in the second quarter of that win she surpassed 1,000 points for her career, becoming only the seventh Lady Mike in school history to reach that milestone.
1/19/15		Dom Sarra Waynesburg Basketball	Dom was the leading scorer in back-to-back Section games last week, scoring 20 against Carmichaels and putting up 29 in a huge win over Section-leading Brownsville.  The two wins pulled the Raiders into a tie for second place in Section 4-AA.
1/12/15		A.C. Headlee Waynesburg Wrestling	At TRICADA, where Waynesburg ran away with the team title, A.C. won another hard fought bout with Canon-Mac's Matt Oblock, in the finals, 3-1. He became the first ever 4-time TRICADA Champion, earning him the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler Award.
12/31/14		Gavin Teasdale & Shaun Wilson POWERade Wrestling	Top seeded Gavin (JM) stormed through the 106-pound weight class to become the County's first POWERade Champion since 2005 while Shaun (Wbg), who was unseeded, also had a very impressive tournament.  He battled to a 3rd Place finish in a field of 41 at 138 pounds!
12/22/14		Craig Weaver West Greene Basketball	West Greene had lost the last 4 they played against Mapletown, but snapped that slump in a big way with a 55-29 win Friday.  Craig was a huge part of that as he was the game's leading scorer and dominated the glass. He scored a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
12/15/14		Colin McCracken Waynesburg Wrestling	After going 5-0 at the Sheetz Classic in Greenville, Colin continued his hot start in the marquee bout of the county rivalry match with Jefferson-Morgan.  Colin squared off against Billy Bowlen and controlled the entire bout, winning 7-2.  The Raiders went on to win, 38-22.
11/10/14		Brandon Daughtry Waynesburg University Soccer	In a very tight PAC Championship Tournament game, Brandon kept his team alive with key save after key save as Waynesburg and Grove City went into overtime, tied at 1. The Yellow Jackets would eventually fall to Grove City, 2-1 in double overtime.  Brandon finished with 13 saves.
11/3/14		Austin Herrod Waynesburg Football	In Waynesburg's first playoff appearance in 11 years, Austin carried the load for the offense, stepping up for Hunter Cenname, who was injured early on. Austin scored on a 70-yard run and ended the night with 133 yards rushing.  The Raiders fell however to South Fayette, 65-6.
10/27/14		Bo Ricci Jefferson-Morgan Football	In a game where drives were consistently stalling deep in opponents' territory, it was Bo's kicking that made the difference.  Bo connected on two 22-yard field goals, one in the 2nd quarter and one in the 3rd quarter to put the Rockets up 6-0. They went on to beat rival Carmichaels, 12-0.
10/20/14		Lindsay Scott Carmichaels Volleyball	In the early stages of a match against West Greene, Lindsay took to the service line tied at 3. She ran off 13 straight service points to put the Mikes up 16-3 on their way to a sweep of the Pioneers. Two days later, she posted 19 assists and 11 kills in a win over rival Jefferson-Morgan.
10/13/14		Hunter Cenname Waynesburg Football	Hunter carried the ball on all but a handful of Waynesburg's offensive plays in a 26-21 win over Southmoreland. He rushed for 189 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 20, 64, and 44 yards. On defense, he sealed the victory with an interception in the end zone in the final moments.
10/6/14		Dylan Rush Mapletown Football	Dylan led Mapletown to a 21-7 victory over Jefferson-Morgan, which gave the Maples sole possession of 3rd place in the Tri-County South Conference, as he compiled over 150 yards of total offense and scored all three of the Maples' touchdowns.
9/29/14		Lily Behm Waynesburg Soccer	In a span of less than 10 minutes in the first half, the Raiders scored 4 goals against Uniontown, 3 of them by Lily.  She wasn't done with just a hat trick though. Lily went on to score two more in the second half accounting for five of the seven Waynesburg goals in a 7-0 shutout win!
9/22/14		Emma Lewis Carmichaels Volleyball	A presence at the net, Emma's 16 kills last week helped Carmichaels to 2 conference wins.  She recorded 8 kills in each of the two matches as the Mikes swept past both Mapletown and West Greene to improve their conference record to 3-2 and move the Mikes into third place.
9/15/14		Liam Shea Carmichaels Golf	In our very first golf broadcast, Liam stood out with a great round, shooting a 2-over, 38 at the Greene County Country Club.  Liam shot par on all of the first 6 holes before back-to-back bogeys.  He led the rest of the field by 6 strokes as the Mikes cruised past Jefferson-Morgan.
9/8/14		Adam Hein Mapletown Football	We usually try to feature a performance that we saw in person, but it's hard to overlook Adam's performance on Friday.  Adam rushed for 210 yards on just 14 carries and scored five touchdowns! He carried the Maples to a 30-2 win, their first win over Carmichaels since 2005.
9/1/14		Hunter Cenname Waynesburg Football	In the season opener, against Burgettstown, Hunter was the game's leading rusher with 148 yards.  He scored three of the Raiders' five touchdowns as Waynesburg went on to defeat the Blue Devils, 33-6 to open Interstate Conference play.
6/9/14		Brennan McMinn Carmichaels Baseball	In 2 state playoff games, Brennan did his part as the leadoff hitter, reaching base 5 out of his 7 plate appearances.  He singled and walked in a 5-4 win over Southern Fulton and was the only bright spot for the Mikes in a 10-0 loss to Elk County Catholic, reaching all 3 times including 2 singles.
6/2/14		Ryan Zalar Carmichaels Baseball	Ryan went 2-for-2 with two singles in the early part of the WPIAL Championship Game and scored the Mikes' only run, giving them an early 1-0 lead.  Ryan was the only Mike with multiple hits. The game was was eventually completed 2 days later after lightning and California won, 6-1.
5/26/14		Morgan Simkovic Jefferson-Morgan Softball	In back-to-back playoff games, two days apart, Morgan started her day with a 2-run homerun in the top of the first inning of each to get the Rockets out to early leads.  In the quarterfinals it led to a 9-1 win, but in the Semifinals, South Side Beaver stormed back and won 5-3.
5/19/14		Emily Luckey Waynesburg Softball	Emily was on base all 4 times she stepped to the plate with 3 singles and a walk. Her first 2 hits drove in the Raiders' first 3 runs. She also made a critical play late when she caught a runner attempting to steal second, stranding a runner at third. Waynesburg defeated Freeport, 11-6.
5/12/14		Maddie Ludrosky Jefferson-Morgan Softball	The Rockets needed a win to ensure at least a share of the section title, and Maddie delivered big time striking out 17 Pioneers on the way to a 6-2 win.  At one point, she struck out 7 in-a-row.  She struck out the side, in order, 3 different times, and struck out the final 5 batters in-a-row.
5/5/14		Aaron Hill Waynesburg Baseball	After being knocked out of the game by a line drive on Monday, Aaron bounced back with a gem on Friday, allowing only 1 hit through 7 innings. His opponent, Taylor Lehman, was even better though, tossing a no-hitter.  Lehman also doubled and scored in the 8th, and Keystone Oaks won the game, 1-0 on a total of 2 hits.
4/28/14		Michael Blasinsky Carmichaels Baseball	Always solid behind the plate, Michael went 2-for-3 with a single, double, and a walk in four plate appearances.  He scored twice and drove in half of Carmichaels' runs as the Mikes defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 6-5.  The Mikes swept the series for the third year in a row.
4/21/14		Logan Bowman Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	Logan was the winning pitcher, going a complete game, striking out seven and allowing only one earned run. He retired 10 in a row to end the game.  At the plate, down 4-3 to Mapletown, Logan singled, stole second, stole third, and scored the game-tying run. The Rockets won, 7-4.
4/14/14		Aaron Hill Waynesburg Baseball	Against Trinity, Aaron got the complete game win on the mound, giving up only 3 hits and striking out seven.  At the plate, he registered two extra-base hits with a double and a triple, driving in a run with each hit.  The Raiders would beat the Hillers, 5-3 to even their section record at 2-2.
4/7/14		Katey Potopenko Waynesburg University Softball	After dropping the first game of a doubleheader, 10-0, Katey got the Yellow Jackets off to a fast start in Game 2 with a 2-run double in the first inning.  Waynesburg would eventually lead Geneva 6-0 before the Golden Tornadoes stormed back for an 11-8 win.
3/31/14		Jessica Taylor Jefferson-Morgan Softball	With the game tied at two with two on and two out, Jessica singled in two runs to give the Rockets a 4-2 lead in the third inning.  That score held up, and Jessica's hit was the difference in a win over Carmichaels.  It was the first Rocket win over the Mikes since 2010.
3/17/14		Anthony Bonaventura Waynesburg University Wrestling	Unseeded coming into the tournament, Anthony knocked off the #2 and #3 seeds en route to the 174-pound NCAA Division III National Final and was the only unseeded wrestler to reach the finals. Now an "All-American," Anthony finished 2nd in the Nation!
3/10/14		A.C. Headlee Waynesburg Wrestling	A.C. reached the State Semifinals with wins of 8-3 and 9-1 and set up another rematch with rival Dalton Macri.  Macri won a close bout, 5-3 but A.C. battled back to later avenge last week's loss to Sam Krivus by scoring a defensive fall with 14 seconds left in the bout to take 3rd Place!
3/3/14		Dalton Wildman West Greene Wrestling	It was looking bleak for West Greene to take a wrestler to Hershey when Dalton was pinned in the Consolation Semifinals, but he persevered in the 5th place match, with a double-leg takedown on the edge of the mat to break a 1-1 tie in the final 25 seconds, punching his ticket to States!
2/24/14		Bill Bowlen Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Bill won two tight bouts to reach the WPIAL finals and then shutout Burrell's Nick Pattock, 5-0 to claim his first WPIAL title! His current record on the year is now 37-3.  Along with teammate John Demaske, who also won a title, Bill has earned a 1st Round bye at Regions in Johnstown.
2/17/14		Caroline Cree Carmichaels Basketball	Caroline led the Mikes to a 41-37 overtime win over Monessen in the Preliminary Round of the WPIAL Playoffs. After being held to just 4 points through 3 quarters, Cree scored 7 points in the 4th quarter and scored the only 4 points scored by either team in overtime.
2/10/14		Rachel Hildebrand Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	With the season on the line and the game tied at 25 through three quarters, Rachel led the Rockets with 8 second-half points as Jefferson-Morgan outscored West Greene 17-5 in the fourth quarter to clinch a playoff spot with a 42-30 win. Rachel was the Rockets' leading scorer with 12.
2/3/14		Anthony Bonaventura Waynesburg University Wrestling	With the team score tied at 9 and the bout score with Thiel's Jordan Powell tied at 1 in overtime, Anthony threw Powell to the mat in a headlock and picked up the only fall of the evening. The win for Anthony propelled Waynesburg to a huge 18-15 PAC win over the Tomcats.
1/27/14		Brandon Lawless Carmichaels Basketball	Brandon had another monster game Friday scoring 40 as the Mikes dominated Avella, 89-41. It was the ninth time he has scored at least 20 in a game this season, six times he's been over 30 and twice over 40.  The win put Carmichaels in 2nd place with 2 key games against Clairton this week.
1/20/14		Dom Sarra Waynesburg Basketball	In what was a significant win for Waynesburg, Dom was the leading scorer as the Raiders snapped a 42-game losing skid in section play.  Dom's 15 points led the Raiders to a 40-33 win over McGuffey.  It was their first section win since February 2, 2010.
1/13/14		John Demaske Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	John dominated in his three TRICADA bouts, picking up first-period falls in each bout and only wrestling a total of 4:24. He was named "Most Outstanding Wrestler" for the tournament. John's 138-pound title was one of three for the Rockets and one of five for Greene County.
1/6/14		Jake Vitolo Waynesburg University Wrestling	Jake went 4-0 to cruise to the 141-pound title at the Waynesburg University Invitational. His victories included two major decisions and a pin plus a comfortable 9-2 decision in the finals.  Jake's title was one of four won by the Yellow Jackets.
12/30/13		A.C. Headlee Waynesburg Wrestling	After finishing 3rd in the prestigious Beast of the East Tournament, A.C. followed that up seven days later by standing on the POWERade podium with a 3rd Place medal there as well.  Headlee went 4-1 in five bouts to claim 3rd at the POWERade for the second straight year.
12/23/13		Ian Wolfe Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In one of the better matchups of the night, Ian pinned West Greene's Trevin Bedilion in 3:38. The win sealed the victory for the Rockets as they went up, 40-9.  The Rockets went on to cruise to a 46-21 section win over the Pioneers.  At 2-0, the Rockets are in a 3-way tie for first place.
12/16/13		Rece Henneman Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	With nine points in the quarter, Rece led the Rockets as they scored 23 4th quarter points to extended a 1-point lead at the end of three quarters to a 12-point, 59-47 win over Mapletown. Rece led all scorers with 20 points and completed a double-double with double-digit rebounds.
11/18/13		Sam Guidi Waynesburg University Wrestling	With the match tied, 9-9 at the halfway point, and with York riding the momentum of the match's first pin, Sam Guidi picked up the only Yellow Jacket pin of the match and put Waynesburg ahead for good with a fall in 1:54 over Austin Barley. Waynesburg went on to beat York, 24-15.
11/11/13		Sean Hilverding Waynesburg Cross Country	Sean first qualified for the PIAA AA Cross Country Championships when he ran a 17:07 at Copper's Lake for a sixth place finish in the WPIAL.  He then went on to Hershey's Parkview Course where he registered a time of 16:47 to finish sixth in the state!
11/4/13		Tyler Aeschbacher Carmichaels Football	In the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs, Tyler excelled in all three phases. Offensively, he caught 9 passes for 82 yards. He intercepted a pass on defense, and on special teams, he scored on a 78-yard kickoff return. Unfortunately, the Mikes fell one point shy of Fort Cherry, 13-12
10/28/13		Taylor Bombalski Waynesburg University Soccer	With the game tied at three and only 9.5 seconds remaining in the first overtime, Taylor connected on a header off a corner kick to hit the game-winning goal in a 4-3 victory over rival W&J.  The win improved the Jackets' conference record to 4-2-1 and evened their overall record at 7-7-1.
10/21/13		Morgan Simkovic Jefferson-Morgan Volleyball	In one of the most raucous crowds we've been a part of, Morgan led the Rockets with 19 points and registered 7 kills as they beat heated rival Carmichaels in a "winner-take-all" for the playoffs. The Rockets let a 2-0 lead slip away, but won Set #5 in dramatic fashion, 15-13.
10/14/13		A.J. Ricci & Micah Stanko Waynesburg Soccer	In an 11-1 drubbing of Uniontown that ended in bizarre fashion with the Red Raiders leaving the field before time expired, both A.J. & Micah lit up the scoreboard combining for 8 of the goals scored.  Each scored four times. The team finished 6-5-1 in section play.
10/7/13		Adam Hein Mapletown Football	Adam averaged over 11 yards per carry and totaled 102 yards rushing as the Maples rolled over Bentworth, 42-14.  Adam scored three of Maples' 6 touchdowns with runs of five and six yards and also scored on a 40-yard reception from quarterback Ben Boone.
9/30/13		John Glen Davis Waynesburg Football	On 21 carries, John Glen rushed for a total of 156 yards including a 64-yard touchdown run.  He also ran in a 2-yard touchdown and accounted for all of the scoring for the Raiders in a tough, 14-13 Interstate Conference loss to the Southmoreland Scotties.
9/23/13		Logan Bowman Jefferson-Morgan Football	Logan put together 260 all-purpose yards on offense.  He rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown, completed a 50-yard halfback pass, and caught 4 passes for 78 yards.  He also added an interception on defense. Unfortunately,  the Rockets fell in overtime to Avella, 27-26.
9/16/13		Taylor Staley Waynesburg Volleyball	In their home section opener, Taylor led the Raiders to a win, racking up 11 kills, as Waynesburg evened their section record at 1-1, sweeping Brownsville in three straight tight sets, 26-24, 25-22, 25-21.
9/9/13		Brandon Lawless Carmichaels Football	Brandon continued his great start to the season by going 11-for-19 passing for 137 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Mikes to a wild 30-22 win over Frazier.  He also added two rushing touchdowns and was involved in a total of 4 touchdowns for the second straight week.
9/2/13		Tyler Aeschbacher Carmichaels Football	What a game for a receiver! Tyler racked up 213 yards on six receptions, three of which went for touchdowns. Combining with QB Brandon Lawless, who also had a tremendous game, Tyler was too much for Jefferson-Morgan to handle as Carmichaels dominated the Rockets, 36-0.
6/10/13		Erica Burns Carmichaels Softball	The Mikes' starting pitcher, Erica led the team offensively in the PIAA Playoffs going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored in a 13-9 win over Saegertown.  Then went 3-for-4 with an RBI in a 6-2 Quarterfinal loss to Southern Huntingdon
6/3/13		Caroline Cree Carmichaels Softball	After falling behind 8-0 in the WPIAL Finals, Caroline got the Mikes on the board, driving in their first run with a 5th inning double and then scoring herself.  The Mikes added 2 more in the 6th, but fell to Neshannock, 10-4.
5/27/13		Lindsey Osborne Carmichaels Softball	The Mikes had just taken a 1-0 third inning lead, in what was expected to be a tight WPIAL Semifinal with Burgettstown, when Lindsey blew the doors off with a 2-out, 2-strike grand slam down the left field line. Carmichaels then cruised into the Championship Game with a 9-0 win.
5/20/13		Josh Mundell Carmichaels Baseball	In a 10-0 first round win over Frazier, Josh reached base 4 out of 5 plate appearances and pitched a scoreless 6th inning. He got the start in the Quarterfinals allowing only 3 hits in 5.2 innings. He left the mound trailing 2-1 and the Mikes unfortunately lost 6-1 to Western Beaver.
5/13/13		Kenny Rhodes Mapletown Baseball	Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 6th, Kenny made back-to-back key plays on fly balls to the left field corner, keeping West Greene off the board. Then he put the ball in play to drive in the tying run from 3rd. An error on the play put the Maples ahead, and they went on to win, 2-1.
5/6/13		Morgan Simkovic Jefferson-Morgan Softball	Morgan had a game-high 3 hits and scored a game-high 2 runs as she went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles in a 5-2 win over West Greene to close out the section schedule. The Rockets finished 6-6 in Section play.
4/29/13		Erica Burns Carmichaels Softball	Erica led off 4 different innings by getting on base via 2 doubles, a single, and a walk, scoring each time. She was also the winning pitcher, retiring the first 8 she faced, and the last 9 she faced as the Mikes beat West Greene, 9-5.
4/22/13		Hannah Gibbons Waynesburg Softball	Hannah reached base all 5 times she stepped to the plate, scored 3, and had 3 RBI. Her double in the fifth drove in what should've been the game-winning run, had the mercy rule been correctly enforced.  The Raiders still beat Bentworth, 15-10.
4/15/13		Brandon Lawless Carmichaels Baseball	Brandon was dominant, pitching a complete game shutout for a 3-0 win over Jefferson-Morgan. He allowed only one hit and struck out fifteen. At the plate he was 1-for-3 with a seventh inning RBI single.
4/8/13		Maddie Ludrosky Jefferson-Morgan Softball	In a mercy-rule win that went only three innings, Maddie was perfect. She faced each Mapletown batter only once and retired all nine, eight of which by strikeout! At the plate, Maddie was 2-for-3 with a single and a double and three RBI.
3/11/13		John Demaske Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	John reached the State Semifinals by knocking off the previously undefeated Northeast Regional Champion, Kent Lane, in the quarterfinals.  He lost to State Champion Ryan Diehl in the Semifinals and ultimately finished in fourth place.
3/4/13		Dustin Conti & A.C. Headlee Jefferson-Morgan & Waynesburg Wrestling	Greene County's two Regional Champions! Dustin beat Mike Fetchet in overtime for the second straight week to win his second straight AA Regional Title and A.C. defeated the top seed, Dom Forys to claim the AAA WPIAL Title.
2/25/13		Zach Brown Mapletown Wrestling	After losing his first bout at the WPIAL AA Championships, Zach fought back with a couple of wins to earn a spot in the 7th place bout.  He would go on to win by fall in the consolation finals & secure the only Maples berth at Regions.
2/18/13		Kevin Ridgley Mapletown Basketball	In a WPIAL Preliminary Round game against Leechburg, Kevin scored four 3-pointers and led Mapletown with 22 points as the Maples pulled away from the Blue Devils, 49-29.  It was the first postseason win for the program since 1972.
2/11/13.		Madison Raber West Greene Basketball	A top-20 WPIAL scorer this season, Madison once again led her team with 15 points and added 13 rebounds for another double-double as West Greene clinched a playoff spot in the final section game, defeating Jefferson-Morgan, 38-34.
2/4/13		Jason Miller Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Jason went 4-0 in his four bouts of this past week's team tournament action with two falls, a technical fall, and a major decision.  He recorded his 100th win in his first bout of the week and the Rockets finished 4th in the WPIAL.
1/28/13		Matt Johnston & Cody Tanner West Greene & Waynesburg Wrestling	Trailing by 5 heading into the final bout, Matt won by fall to propel West Greene to a 37-36 win over Derry. / Cody, nearly pinned early, pulled essentially a 12-point swing when he won by fall in 2:30. The Raiders beat Montour, 39-33. The wins clinched postseason berths for both teams.
1/21/13		Travis Taylor Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Travis led the Rockets storming out of the gate to a 20-0 lead over West Greene at the end of the first quarter.  His 18 points would lead all scorers as the Rockets picked up their second section win with a 61-30 victory over the Pioneers.
1/14/13		Shane Piper Waynesburg Wrestling	Shane advanced to the TRICADA Finals, where he would face Tanner Sutton, who was vying to become the tournament's first ever 4-time champion.  Shane's 6-4 OT win earned him the 145-lb title and the Outsanding Wrestler award.
1/7/13		Amanda Brown Carmichaels Basketball	After falling behind by 6 in the 2nd quarter, Amanda led Carmichaels on a 22-2 run to end the half with a 14-point lead.  Amanda finished with a team-high 21 points as the Mikes won their section opener over West Greene, 55-40.
12/31/12		A.C. Headlee Waynesburg Wrestling	Following a 4th Place finish at Beast of the East a week prior, A.C. went 6-1at POWERade.  He would avenge his tough 4-3 quarterfinal loss to Hempfield's Ricky Cavallo by pinning Cavallo in the Consolation Finals to finish third.
12/24/12		Adam Fox Waynesburg Basketball	Trailing by 19 at the half, Adam led the Raiders on two separate comebacks, with six 2nd half 3-pointers, twice pulling the team back into single-digit deficits.  The Raiders would ultimately fall to South Park, 77-54.  Adam finished with 22 points.
12/17/12		Terry Victor Waynesburg Wrestling	With 2 of the last 4 bouts already determined to be traded forfeits, Terry's hard fought 3-0 win at 132 pounds sealed a victory for Waynesburg over Jefferson-Morgan. The Raiders went on to win the match, 39-31.
11/12/12		Sean Hilverding Waynesburg Cross Country	In his first season of cross country, Sean finished first on the team at every meet this past season. He finished 2nd in the section and had his season-best time of 16:48, finishing 4th at the Mingo Invitational.
11/5/12		Dustin Conti Jefferson-Morgan Football	In a losing effort to Neshannock in the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs, Dustin was the offensive highlight for the Rockets. He ran for 154 yards on 28 carries and scored both Rocket touchdowns in his final football game at Jefferson-Morgan.
10/29/12		Brennan McMinn Carmichaels Football	Closing out the regular season with a 54-7 win over West Greene, Brennan ran for 99 yards and a touchdown on just twelve first-half carries. He would add a 93-yard kickoff return for touchdown in the fourth quarter.
10/22/12		Hannah Cutwright Carmichaels Volleyball	In the last week of the regular season, Hannah led the Mikes with over 20 kills and over 30 digs, to wins over Waynesburg in non-section action, and then over West Greene & Jefferson-Morgan to close out the section schedule.
10/15/12		Dalton Wildman West Greene Football	The Pioneers starting quarterback carried the ball 22 times for a total of 228 yards and two touchdowns.  He also threw for an additional touchdown in a convincing 42-8 win over Mapletown.
10/8/12		Gillian Alexander Jefferson-Morgan Golf	Gillian captured the WPIAL AA Girls Individual Golf Title by shooting 39 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine for a 6-over par, 78 at 3 Lakes Golf Course in Penn Hills.  She finished two strokes ahead of the rest of the field.
10/1/12		Tayler Benson Waynesburg Soccer	In a 7-1 win over Uniontown, Tayler accounted for more than half the Waynesburg offense with a four-goal effort. The win, at the time, improved the Raiders' section record to 4-3 and their overall mark to 6-4-1.
9/24/12		Micah Stanko Waynesburg Soccer	Micah's hat trick accounted for all of the Waynesburg goals as the battle for first place with McGuffey ended in a 3-3 tie.  His third goal gave Waynesburg a 3-2 lead up until 3:41 to go when McGuffey tied the game to force OT.
9/17/12		Shannon Morgan Waynesburg Volleyball	Shannon, with 13 kills and 10 additional points, led Waynesburg to a convincing 3-1 defeat of Charleroi to open section play. Set scores were: 25-16, 25-14, 15-25, 25-17.
9/10/12		Josh Mundell Carmichaels Football	After leading the WPIAL with 282 yards in Week 1, Josh passed the century mark again with 106 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.  His 70-yard kickoff return in the 4th quarter put the game out of reach as the Mikes defeated Frazier, 28-14.
9/3/12		Nic Santoyo Jefferson-Morgan Football	Nic scored the first points against Carmichaels with a 48-yard touchdown reception.  Then he preserved the Rockets' halftime lead when he intercepted a pass at the goal line in the final seconds of the half. The lead was 14-7 at the half and the Rockets went on to win, 21-14.
6/11/12		Marissa Kalsey Waynesburg Track & Field	Marissa not only set a meet record as she won a WPIAL Pole Vault title with a mark of 12' 6", she used that same mark a week later at Shippensburg University to claim the PIAA State Pole Vault title as well.
6/4/12		Lindsey Osborne Carmichaels Softball	Lindsey continued to be the most productive Mike at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles in the WPIAL Championship Game.  Her second double drove in the Mikes' second potential game-winning run, but the Mikes would unfortunately lose, 3-2, in the bottom of the 9th.
5/28/12		Lindsey Osborne Carmichaels Softball	In 2 playoff games last week, Lindsey had the best showing at the plate, going 3-for-8 with 3 singles. She drove in a total of 3 which included a 2-run bloop single to tie Sto-Rox at 5 after trailing 5-0. The Mikes went on to earn a spot in the WPIAL Finals with a 6-5 win in 9 innings.
5/21/12		Taylor Johnson Waynesburg Softball	Taylor never made an out against Mt. Pleasant, as she reached base in all 4 plate appearances with a double, 2 singles, and a walk.  She also scored the game-tying run with 2 outs in the top of the seventh.  Unfortunately the Raiders would fall in the bottom of the seventh, 7-6.
5/14/12		Alex Swauger Waynesburg Baseball	Alex came just a homerun shy of the cycle when he went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs with a double, and RBI-single, and a 3-run triple as the Raiders finished the regular season with a 10-6, come-from-behind win over Washington.
5/7/12		Cameron Grimes Carmichaels Softball	Cameron, with the strikeout, led Carmichaels to a 3-0 win over J-M and an outright section title.  The Rockets stranded 6 base runners in scoring position, as Cameron twice used back-to-back Ks to get out of 1-out jams.  She finished with 10 Ks, 6 of which came with runners in scoring position.
4/30/12		Kaitlyn Coles Jefferson-Morgan Softball	In a key Section 2-A win that would assure the Rockets of no worse than second place, Kaitlyn struck out nine West Greene batters, allowed no walks, and forced the Pioneers to strand nine base runners as the Rockets won, 3-2.
4/23/12		Jordan Moore Waynesburg Softball	Of her 7 innings pitched, a total of 6 of them were perfect innings.  Her only blemish was the 5th  inning and in the bottom of the 5th, Jordan led off a game-winning, 4-run rally with a double off the wall as Waynesburg beat South Fayette, 5-3.
4/16/12		Logan Bowman Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	In a game that involved a total of 21 runs, Logan led all players in RBI's as he drove in four, going 2-for-4 with a single and a double.  The Rockets never led until the bottom of the sixth, and went on to defeat Geibel, 11-10.
4/9/12		Nick Clarke Carmichaels Baseball	Nick blew open an 8-3 lead with a 3-run triple that helped catapult the Mikes to a 17-4 win over West Greene.  Nick accounted for all of the extra base hits in the game as he reached base 3 times including the big triple and an earlier double.
3/19/12		Marissa Kalsey & Peyton Hampson Waynesburg Indoor Track	Both Marissa & Peyton capped great Indoor Track seasons at the State Championships recently.  Marissa finished fourth overall in Pole Vault (2nd in AA), while Peyton was the AA Champion in the 800-meter run (9th overall).
3/12/12		Dustin Conti Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Dustin would extend his undefeated record to 45-0, reaching the State Semifinals, before dropping two bouts Friday night. Conti ended up finishing 5th in the state in AA.  His medal was the only PIAA medal won by a Greene County wrestler.
3/5/12		Dustin Conti Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	The top seed at 170 pounds, Dustin went 3-0 in Johnstown and clinched the only Greene County SW Regional title with a double-OT win over previously undefeated John Blankenship of United. Conti's record heading to Hershey is 43-0.
2/27/12		Kyle Gray Mapletown Wrestling	In the year of the school's return to wrestling, Kyle has been the bright spot for the Maples.  The former Waynesburg wrestler won 3 bouts, 2 by fall, to reach the WPIAL AA Finals before losing a tough 4-2 decision to finish as runner-up at 195 lbs.  Kyle moves on to Regionals this week.
2/20/12		Cheyenne Miller West Greene Basketball	Cheyenne scored a game high 16 points in the Preliminary Round of the WPIAL Playoffs and the Pioneers defeated Frazier, 51-31.  She scored as many from the free throw line (8) as she did with her four field goals.  The win was the first postseason win in West Greene team history!
2/13/12		Morgan Berardi Carmichaels Basketball	The leading scorer for Carmichaels on the season, Morgan has been consistent throughout, scoring at least 15 points in 16 of the Mikes' 22 games. She put up 19 in the regular season finale against Mapletown and leads the Mikes into the playoffs.
2/6/12		Brendan Howard Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In 3 WPIAL Team Tournament matches, Brendan was one of only 2 Rockets (with John Demaske) to record 2 pins, Howard's falls had times of :32 & :49! He also recorded a win by a 3-2 decision.  The Rockets would suffer a heartbreaking loss to Burrell in the finals and finish as the runner-up.
1/30/12		Dustin Conti Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In 2 bouts at the 2-AA Section Championship, Dustin recorded falls in 1:48 & :13 respectively as the Rockets claimed their 2nd straight title. Three days later he won the 170-pound title at the Bedford Thomas Subaru Tournament.
1/23/12		Dominique Cage Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Dom led all scorers with 20 points and could've racked up quite a few more if not for fouling out early.  All of his points were from the field,  hitting 10 field goals and leading the Rockets to a 77-41 win over Mapletown.
1/16/12		John Demaske Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	In his 3 bouts at the TRICADA Tournament, John, the #1 seed, wasn't even scored upon, winning by technical fall and two falls.  In the finals, he pinned the #2 seed in just 1:44 to claim the title at 113 pounds.
1/9/12		Garrett Johnston Waynesburg University Wrestling	With our first collegiate broadcast comes our first collegiate Athlete of the Week as West Greene graduate Garrett Johnston went 5-0 with four falls to capture the 157-pound title at the Waynesburg University Invitational.
1/2/12		A.C. Headlee Waynesburg Wrestling	Despite losing his second bout at the POWERade Christmas Tournament, the 106-pound freshman made it all the way through the consolation bracket, winning six straight bouts and avenging his only loss, to capture 3rd place.
12/26/11		Ty Negley Waynesburg Basketball	Ty fell just a point shy of doubling any scorer from either team when he put up 27 points in a 65-56 non-section win over Fort Cherry.  He scored 16 from the field including two from beyond the arch, and converted 11 free throws.
12/19/11		Anna Cree Carmichaels Basketball	Anna led all scorers with 25 points in a 61-58 come-from-behind win over Beth-Center.  Of her eight field goals, 3 were from beyond the 3-point arch.  She followed that up two days later by putting up 29 in a 66-38 win over Frazier.
10/31/11		Nick Zupper Waynesburg Football	In the final game of his high school career, Nick ran for over 180 yards and two touchdowns, eclipsing the 1,500-yard mark for the season.  His total placed him in the WPIAL's top 5 for total rushing yards for the 2011 regular season.
10/24/11		Emily Rohanna & Danielle Jacobs Waynesburg Golf & Cross Country	Honoring two athletes not included in our broadcasts: Emily won her 2nd straight WPIAL Girls Golf Title and Danielle won two meets in the same week earlier this month, setting a course record at Burgettstown of 22:34.
10/17/11		Heidi Dains Jefferson-Morgan Volleyball	With her team down 2-1 in the match, Heidi led the Rockets from behind for a critical section win over Carmichaels.  She finished with a total of 17 kills and 12 points.  To top it off, the following night, Heidi was crowned Homecoming Queen!
10/10/11		Tyler Bowman Jefferson-Morgan Football	Tyler was both the leading passer and leading rusher in a thrilling 42-41 overtime win over Carmichaels. He threw for over 100 yds & 2 TDs and added over 100 yards with another 2 TDs plus a 2-point conversion on the ground.
10/3/11		Sarah Hathaway Carmichaels Volleyball	In a sweep of the Mapletown Maples, Sarah led the Mighty Mikes with 17 points and 21 assists. With scores of 25-13, 25-18, & 25-20, Carmichaels picked up their third section win.
9/26/11		Josh Mundell Carmichaels Football	In an otherwise forgettable game for Mundell and the Mikes, Josh scored the only Carmichaels points when one of his 8 carries went for a 29-yard touchdown.  The Mikes would lose to Beth-Center, 48-6.
9/19/11		Jordan Gifford West Greene Football	With the Pioneers trailing by 22, Jordan's 89-yard fourth-quarter kickoff return for touchdown and an ensuing onside kick recovery made things interesting late. Unfortunately, West Greene would still fall short to Geibel, 28-12.
9/12/11		Nick Zupper Waynesburg Football	Nick scored three touchdowns, including a run of of 75 yards, and led the game with 186 total rushing yards. The Raiders fell just shy of pulling out a remarkable comeback, losing to East Allegheny, 35-33 after trailing 20-0.
9/5/11		Colby Kincell Mapletown Football	Though the game was well in hand for California, Colby opened the fourth quarter with a 65-yard run for touchdown, easily the longest play from scrimmage for Mapletown in a tough 42-13 loss.
6/13/11		Rick Kalsey Waynesburg Baseball	In his final game at Waynesburg, Kalsey was the only Raider to reach base twice against Bedford in the state  playoffs. Going 1-for-3 with a walk, his 2-out single in the 3rd, drove in the game's 1st run.  Waynesburg would lose a tough one, 3-2.
6/6/11		Mike Ammer Waynesburg Baseball	From the ninth spot in the order in the WPIAL Championship Game, Mike turned the lineup over twice, going 2-for-3 with two singles.  He scored the only Waynesburg run in a tough 2-1 loss to Riverside.
5/30/11		Steve McCaw Waynesburg Baseball	In two playoff games last week, Steve went a combined 4-for-8 with 2 singles, a double, and a triple, driving in four runs in wins over Frazier and Laurel as the Raiders advanced to the WPIAL Championship Game.
5/23/11		Nick Clarke Carmichaels Baseball	Nick went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, a single, and a walk, driving in 3 runs and scoring once as the Mikes advanced to the WPIAL quarterfinals with a 12-6 win over Rochester.  From the mound, Nick recorded 4 strikeouts in just 2 innings of relief.
5/16/11		Jon Krall Carmichaels Baseball	In a game with a playoff spot on the line, Jon pitched a complete game shutout, recording 16 strikeouts and  allowing only 2 hits.  He also drove in a run in a 4-0 win over Jefferson-Morgan to secure the final playoff spot in Section 1-A.
5/9/11		Brandon Kozich Jefferson-Morgan Baseball	Brandon pitched a complete game, allowing only 2 runs on 2 hits in a 7-2 win over Geibel.  At the plate, he went 2 for 4, reaching base 3 times and drove in two of the Rocket runs.  His runner, Jesse Jento also scored a run.
5/2/11		Breanna Morris Waynesburg Softball	Breanna hit a 2-out, bases loaded walk-off shot into the left field corner to drive in the winning run in an 8-7 win over Charleroi.  She finished 3-for-4 with a walk, 2 singles, and a double & 4 RBI. At shortstop, she also had a hand in 8 put outs.
4/25/11		Joe Monica Waynesburg Baseball	Joe, the winning pitcher, also went 3 for 4 with two doubles and scored all three times he reached base in a 6-2 win over Washington.  From the mound, he worked 5 innings, surrendered only 2 runs on 5 hits, and struck out seven batters.
4/18/11		Macy McMillan West Greene Softball	Macy went 2-for-3, reaching base three out of her four plate appearances with a double, a single, and a walk.  Her pinch runner, Michaela Filby, also scored twice in West Greene's 5-4 section win over Jefferson-Morgan.
4/11/11		Trevor Robinson Carmichaels Baseball	In three plate appearances, Trevor went 2 for 3 with two singles, scored twice and drove in a run in Carmichaels' 11-0 win over West Greene.
3/14/11		Zach McGinnis Waynesburg Wrestling	Zach was the only Greene County wrestler to reach the State Semifinals this season and went on to claim 4th place at 125 lbs.  A total of 5 County wrestlers competed in Hershey, and the only other medal was 7th place for Derrick Nelson.
3/7/11		Derrick Nelson           & Zach McGinnis Waynesburg Wrestling	Derrick & Zach each reached the WPIAL finals at 119 lbs. and 125 lbs. respectively.  Derrick would lose a tough 3-2 bout in the finals and for Zach, it was a 17-9 loss to 4-time WPIAL Champion Nico Megaludis.  Both of course, advance to Hershey.
2/28/11		Joe Phillips Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Joe pinned his way to the 189-pound WPIAL AA finals including a fall in 4:21 over the top seed in the semifinals.  He would lose a 4-3 bout in the finals, but his 2nd Place finish was the best in the County, which advances 10 to Johnstown.
2/21/11		John Demaske Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	John, a freshman, improved his career record to 23-6 with two wins in the Section 2-AA Championships. He defeated a state qualifier from a year ago in the finals to claim the 103-pound title.  It was the only title for Greene County.
2/14/11		Seth Krall Carmichaels Basketball	Typically this honor goes to a performance from one of our broadcasts.  We make an exception though for the largest point output in the county this season, as Seth registered a 39-point game with 8 three-pointers in a win over Mapletown.
2/7/11		Derek Lohr Waynesburg Basketball	Trailing by 2 late, Derek took a beautiful feed from Ty Negley and converted a 3-point play to take the lead.  After a McGuffey 3-pointer, it was Lohr who scored on the other end to send the game to overtime.  The Raiders would lose 56-53.
1/31/11		Jon Krall       & Seth Krall Carmichaels Basketball	In back-to-back broadcasts, the Krall brothers put up a combined 72 points. Jon with 29 and 10, Seth with 15 and 18 in wins over Mapletown and Jefferson -Morgan respectively. To add to that, they each scored 26 in an overtime loss to Avella.
1/24/11		Dustin Conti Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Leading West Greene 31-12 heading into the 171-pound bout, Dustin scored a 17-2 Technical Fall win in 5:30 to seal the Rocket victory that would become a 51-15 win to clinch second place in Section 2-A
1/17/11		Jeremy Ellis Waynesburg Wrestling	Helping Waynesburg to the team title, Jeremy was one of 3 Raiders to claim TRICADA gold, winning the 189-pound title.  Derrick Nelson & Zach McGinnis also won titles, but for Ellis, it was his 2nd straight TRICADA Championship.
1/10/11		Tyler King Waynesburg Wrestling	With the match tied at 15, Tyler (wrestling up to 135 lbs.) scored a last-second, come-from-behind 3-2 decision that began a streak of eight consecutive bout victories for the Raiders as they closed out a 51-15 section win over McGuffey.
1/3/11		Zach McGinnis Waynesburg Wrestling	Zach won his first 3 bouts at the POWERade Christmas Wrestling Tournament and was the only Greene County Wrestler to reach the semifinals.  He would finish 5th at 125 lbs, with a final record of 4-2 in his six bouts.
12/27/10		Ashley Faddis Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Ashley led all scorers with 14 points on 7 field goals and played a tremendous defensive game with multiple steals in a 51-30 win over the Mapletown Maples.  The win improved the Rockets to 2-0 in section play.
12/20/10		Ty Negley Waynesburg Basketball	Ty led all scorers with 17 points, connecting on 6 field goals including one from beyond the arc, and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in an early season 79-23 win over West Greene.
11/1/10		T.J. Harkins Carmichaels Football	T.J. ended each of the first 3 Mapletown possessions with takeaways including 2 interceptions and a fumble return for touchdown. The Mikes scored 20 points off of those turnovers and defeated the Maples 46-0.
10/25/10		Sarah Hathaway Carmichaels Volleyball	In a week that saw the Mikes close out their regular season with two section wins to finish 6-6 in section play, Sarah led the team with nearly 30 assists in just 6 total sets as the Mikes swept both West Greene and Mapletown.
10/18/10		Niki Augustine Waynesburg Soccer	Niki scored both Waynesburg goals as the Raiders defeated Derry, 2-1 in section play.  The win improved the Raiders to a 5-5-3 record in section 1-AA.
10/11/10		Nathan Ribar Waynesburg Soccer	Nathan, the Waynesburg Goalkeeper, held Charleroi off the scoreboard and made a fantastic save on a penalty kick to preserve a 2-0 shutout section win over the Cougars.
10/4/10		Paige Huber Jefferson-Morgan Volleyball	Paige, a nominee the week prior when she racked up 13 kills and 12 digs in a win over Carmichaels, continued this past week with another 28 total kills in wins over Trinity, West Greene, and Mapletown.
9/27/10		Brent Sink West Greene Football	Brent piled up 169 total yards of offense, 126 of it on 14 carries, and scored two touchdowns in West Greene's 23-7 win over Mapletown.  The win snapped a 26-game losing streak for the Pioneers.
9/20/10		Anne Throckmorton Waynesburg Soccer	Anne, the Waynesburg Goalkeeper, made 9 saves and allowed only 1 goal in a tough 1-0 loss to Mt. Pleasant.
9/13/10		Zach Mundell Carmichaels Football	Zach capped two 10-play scoring drives with a 7-yard touchdown run and a 2-yard touchdown run respectively.  He ran for a total of 65 yards in a tough 26-21 loss at California.
9/6/10		Brandon Kozich Jefferson-Morgan Football	Brandon completed 6 of 13 pass attempts including two touchdown passes, while compiling a total of 95 yards through the air in a 34-12 opening night win over West Greene.
5/31/10		Marissa Kalsey Waynesburg Track & Field Hans Lubich Jefferson-Morgan Track & Field	Marissa, WPIAL AA Champion in pole vault,  finished as the state runner-up with a mark of 11' 0".  Lubich took 2nd in the WPIAL and 4th in the state with his high jump mark of 6' 4".
5/24/10		Felicia Burns Carmichaels Softball	Felicia was dominant in her first high school playoff game, striking out 16 and allowing only 2 hits in a 3-0 WPIAL A First Round win over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
5/17/10		Kaylie Barger Waynesburg Softball	Kaylie went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, scoring twice in a 9-1 win over Washington.  The win secured an outright Section 2-AA title for the Lady Raiders.
5/10/10		Paige Moninger West Greene Softball	Paige pitched 4 perfect innings before allowing a walk in the fifth and eventually just one run on two hits in a thrilling 2-1 win over Jefferson-Morgan in 8 innings.  The win helped the Pioneers punch their ticket to the postseason.
5/3/10		Nick Clarke Carmichaels Baseball	Nick went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and a single, driving in 2 runs and scoring once in a 5-4 win over Geibel.
4/26/10		Emily Bosworth Waynesburg Softball	In a game shortened to 5 innings by the mercy rule, Emily struck out 10 of the 18 batters she faced, allowing only 3 singles.  At the plate, she was 2 for 3 with a 2-run homerun and a double, scoring twice in a 12-0 win over Wash High.
4/19/10		Joe Monica Waynesburg Baseball	Joe pitched a no-hitter, striking out 14 of the 25 batters he faced.  At the plate, Joe was 2 for 3 with a walk, a double, and a triple.  He scored twice and drove in 3 in an 8-0 Waynesburg win over Frazier.
4/12/10		Marissa Cameron Jefferson-Morgan Softball	In a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule, Marissa went 3 for 3 with a walk, a single, and 2 doubles.  She scored 3 times and drove in 3 runs in a 15-0 Rocket win over Geibel.
4/5/10		Felicia Burns Carmichaels Softball	In a game shortened to less than three innings by the mercy rule, Felicia struck out 6 of the 10 batters she faced, allowing no hits.  At the plate Burns went 2 for 3 with a triple and scored 3 times in a 15-0 Carmichaels win over Charleroi.
3/15/10		Derrick Nelson Waynesburg Wrestling	Derrick reached the State Semifinals, recorded a record of 3-2 at the PIAA Championships in Hershey, and finished 5th at 119 lbs.  Nelson's was the only medal for Greene County this season.
3/8/10		Zach McGinnis Waynesburg Wrestling	Zach recorded outstanding wins (Fall :22, Fall 5:34, 18-17 in semifinals, and a Fall in :58 in the finals) to claim the 125 lb. WPIAL title.  It was the only AAA title for Greene County.  He will join Derrick Nelson in Hershey this weekend.
3/1/10		Colton Blumer West Greene Wrestling	Colton recorded two first period pins and then an 8-0 decision in the finals to win the WPIAL AA title at 135 lbs.  Blumer's title was the only AA title for Greene County, who will send a total of  4 to the PIAA AA Southwest Regional.
2/22/10		Joe Phillips Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Joe posted a 3-0 record including 2 wins by fall in winning the Section 2-AA title at 189 pounds. Phillips recorded falls in 3:04 and in 7:29, and in the finals, won by a 7-3 decision.
2/15/10		Bill Musgrove Carmichaels Basketball	Bill scored 32 points, which was a little more than half of the scoring for Carmichaels in a tough 62-59 loss to Avella.  The point total was the highest scored in any game covered by GreeneSports.net thus far.
2/8/10		Zach McGinnis Waynesburg Wrestling	Trailing 24-0 in the 1st Round of the AAA Team Tournament, the Raiders rolled off 4 wins in 5 bouts, including a :52 pin for McGinnis, cutting the lead to 27-18.  The Raiders would later be eliminated by North Allegheny, 42-30.
2/1/10		Quincy Hathaway Jefferson-Morgan Wrestling	Quincy helped the Rockets to a second place finish in Section 2-AA with decisions of 10-3 and 13-1 as Jefferson-Morgan defeated Charleroi and dropped a heartbreaker to Yough in the finals.
1/25/10		John Sinnott Waynesburg Basketball	In a dramatic 68-66 win over Elizabeth Forward, John led all scorers with 26 points.  He saved the best for last as he drove the length of the floor, with the game tied at 66, to hit the game-winner underneath the basket just before the buzzer.
1/18/10		Colton Blumer West Greene Wrestling	Colton cruised through three bouts in the TRICADA Tournament, winning the 135-poundtitle by pinning all three of his opponents in thefirst period.  Colton recorded falls in 1:58, :50, and 1:45.
1/11/10		Jarrett Porterfield Mapletown Basketball	Jarrett was the Maples' leading scorer with 21 points in a 65-58 loss to Beth-Center
1/4/10		Derrick Nelson Waynesburg Wrestling	Derrick recorded a 5-2 record in 7 bouts at the Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament.  Derrick's 4th place finish at 119 pounds was the only medal for Greene County
12/28/09		Nick Mox Jefferson-Morgan Basketball	Nick's 22 points led all scorers in a 68-65 loss to Avella. His 22 points included six 3-pointers.
